Do you still feel this way?

He has a TON of detractors in Cincinnati. Same criticism over lineups, but not so much on not playing younger players or over-using his starting staff.

I think people just don't like the guy.

That Dusty winning usually ends about a week or a day too early in October

But I like the flamethrowing bullpen strategy

6 inning games

Who will be the Lucky Red or Reds who get a heater in the ribs today?

The team is on fire, they look good...Don't see anybody in the N.L. beating them.

They have also been playing lights out without their best player. You still want to peak in October and not July/August though.

I will be tuned in for sure tonight to see if there are any fireworks from the HBP Chapman delivered to the future NL MVP last night.

The PirAtes got fucked with the early and uncalled for warning...Reds won 15 of 16 and go for the sweep today..I expect the pirates to drill a couple reds today.

Today's game is going to be of the can't miss variety. First pitch is under an hour away. Hopefully the umpires don't screw this up any more with their warning bullshit. There should have been no warning yesterday and the Pirates should have drilled someone to end it. Now its escalated even further and fireworks should be present today.

I admit that I didn't expect the Reds to win the Central so decisively; much less compete for the best record in baseball.

Since Arroyo switched leagues in 2006, he's the NL's winningest pitcher. I guess every other pitcher with less wins in the NL isn't "even average" either, huh? The good fish shows his fucking baseball brilliance again .

Dumbass.

Arroyo has been consistent and an innings eater for the Reds. I can't stand looking at him and his weird hair and leg kick but he gets the job done.

Not surprisingly, I have no idea what you're talking about.

I just find your edict to others to stop putting Arroyo in the mix of good pitchers because he's 'not even an average' pitcher to be humorous.

It's OK for you to find it humorous but the evidence you cited to highlight what you consider untrue is not compelling for any number of reasons. You, of course, do know what I am talking about with Mark Grace, as that was a fun fact Grace fans used to like to cite to detail his greatness.

Out of all the statistical evidence out there to disprove my four year old statement, you chose wins, which, in itself, is considered a dubious metric by many (not necessarily me). You follow that up by choosing wins over a certain period of time in a particular league where countless superior and even comparable pitchers have not served in both those years and league resulting in a statistic that is indicative of almost nothing.

You probably can prove me wrong, but you didn't. Enjoy your humor.

The Grace correlation is relevant. It speaks to the fallacy of arbitrary beginning and end points. Arroyo is almost the definition of average. He eats innings and takes the ball every fifth day, which has some value. He isn't "good" by any other measure however.

And that is my point. Dolphin's claim is not that he's "good"; and not that he's "average" - but that he's below average.

There's not a GM in the league that would say that a guy that has led the league for six years in wins (91), starts (232), and IP (1,482) is "not even average" as GD claims.

He's just using words to distract from the fact that he is wrong . . . which is not surprising.

If Arroyo has made an average of 25 starts over the past 7 damn seasons in the NL, he should be near the top in wins.

The opposite is true as I wrote there, plain as day, that I thought you could prove me wrong. That is a clear concession.

If it wasn't a concession I would have attacked that you chose to frame your research to the NL, the clearly inferior league and not use his entire career. I would have also remarked on how your rebuttal didn't arise last year when his ERA was hovering over 5...in the NL. I might have even said something about the subsequent years of moderate success have little relevance to the truth of the statement at the time of posting. But I didn't do that because I understand the mentally unstable appearance defending a 4 season old statement about a trifling player appears to the rest of the world.

The only reason I responded is because you were so proud of your research like you had uncovered some gem. I would have expected someone so consumed to respond to a 4 season old post to have provided something that actually proved the point he wished to make.

It's like saying Dunston was great because he played 1800 games.

Yeah. I think I have. Some weirdo with dubious baseball thoughts said something like that not terribly long ago.
But don't worry it mostly got lost in a thousand other bad sports thoughts here.

You don't stick around that long by being horsehit. Dunston was a decent major league ballplayer and Arroyo is a decent major league pitcher. To say anything else is a more than dubious baseball thought.

I've quoted his statement that Arroyo "isn't even an average pitcher" on multiple occasions the past two years and I've provided data regarding having the most wins, innings pitched and starts in the past 7 years.

He can use all the words he wants but the fact remains that he simply can't admit that he's wrong. Which is fine. I know he's frustrated right now, so I'm going to let it lie.
