I think being an update guy at least makes drinky think of himself as being more significant. There's a stigma about being a prodcuer at the Score. Especially the older you get as you see the kids coming in and having the same job.

I think the hosts look down on update people and producers. The update people get to look down at the producers. Prodcuers don't get to look down at anybody. :(

So this makes drink feel superior when he gets these shifts. Then it sucks when he has to go back to answering Bernstein's calls.

Why? He delivers updates without making the same stupid jokes twice an hour or verbally tripping down twelve flights of stairs.

Maybe it's not the same bad joke twice an hour. But it's different bad jokes enough times from the times I've heard him.

Drink is the classsic dumb white where they think they are funnier than what they are. Horrible trait of my race.

Dan would say that is a bullshit excuse and they are not good enough. Kind of like how he mocks NFL players who get cut and claim it was due to the numbers game.

I'm going to venture a guess that I know a little more about the business world than Dan.

Drinky & Goff would be a better show than any show on the Score, but yea, they would be great from 6-10, or, Matty would be great doing overnights from 10-5. Les has become unlistenable for me.

Haven't heard much of drink and Goff when driving on the weekends recently. Looks like those shifts now go to Finfer and "Joe O & Connor".

I wonder if this is a change in Mitch's favorites or if it's just drink and Goff no longer wanting to give up their weekends.

Why doesn't Goff get to do updates?

In fact, and I could be wrong, I don't think the Score has ever had a minority at the update desk. It's always been bad whites. What does that say about the Score?

I think Goff did a Saturday afternoon show a few weeks ago, Beardown. Drinky did "SCORE Overnight" subbing for Grobber when Les actually took a vacation not that long ago, too.

I know that White Sox baseball has cut into any airshifts Goff or Drinky would get on the weekends, let alone latenights during the week when there's no Sox game following the nighttime SCORE with Laurence Holmes come 10P.

Goff & Matt Bowen do have an airshift Thursday night, likely breaking down the Bears' first preseason game vs. the Broncos at Soldier Field come 10P. Ben Finfer & Barry Rozner have live, local sports talk at Noon Saturday, while Joe Ostrowski & 670thescore.com Webmaster Adam Hoge, subbing for the vacationing Connor McKnight, follow the Sox/A's game from the Southside come 5P Sunday, just so you know.

Thanks, Shark. But you failed to explain why the Score does not hire minorities to do updates.

Not sure why minorities haven't done "Scoreboard Updates", but Kerry Sayers has. Speaking of Sayers, when does she return from maternity leave?

I'm a big fan of Goff & the NFL, but I am not looking forward to hearing Matt Bowen & his annoying voice every Sunday & throughout the week.
Did you know that he played in the NFL for the Rams & Mike Martz?

Speaking of the lovechild of Roger Ebert & Steve Dahl, Mike Martz has been hired by FOX Sports as an NFL analyst. He'll work with Ron Pitts on one of the lower-tier "NFL on FOX" teams, while former NFL fullback Heath Evans joins Sam Rosen on another crew. Chad Pennington, we hardly knew ye?

Sam & Heath debut September 9th when they call the Seahawks/Cardinals' regular season opener, while Ron & Mike call the opener of the Panthers/Buccaneers' regular season as part of the "NFL on FOX" opening Sunday doubleheader.

Dude I just logged in to reply to this heaping helping of hooey. Bat Amattacola overnights would just be.... errrrgh. I know he's filled in for the grobjob a couple times in the past, but overall i think this move would compel me to PTFB.

As i've said on here countless times, Amattacola has this discernible aura of edginess when he does solo shows. It's almost like he plays eye of the tiger a few times before he goes in the boith so he's pumped up and ready to go. You know the edge I'm speaking about, it's akin to the bravado he seethes when he comes on here to frolic with the great unwashed and he's telling us that if we don't like it don't listen BUT SURPRISE we're all pathetic fanboys who hang on every word they say so basically shut up and blow him (especially beardown)

Matt(y if you're seeking a colloquial relationship with him because you know he posts/reads here) despite his numerous claims otherwise, is basically a slightly evolved bernstein clone on air these days. He tries to water down the empirical/geeky/intellectual side wth a touch of the oldschool score next generation" thing he had in spades during the last call epoch. He usually comes off like he's snapping ar you because his desire to establish himself as a sports valedictorian. Sure he's noticeably trying to tone that down lately, but it's still there. So you'd basically have a bernstein-lite show with more esoteric SCORE BACKSTAGE STORIES. If he had one of his buddies producing the legendary tales of off the air social outings would never end. He'd patronise the idiot callers and either do the b&b schtick or try to show off his comedic abilities with them. It'd be smarmy and aloof to the max cuz you know amattacola would see the shift as beneath him and therefore he'd take the piss out of it like septic tank.

Les is perfect for overnights. The callers get a lot of time as they're the stars of the show and then Les builds off of what they were saying with facts, stories, and anecdotes. Then the caller usually gwts another chance to speak and Les rolls onward. See, Les has convos with callers whereas thw dayrime guys have you speak your piece (especially SHAKETHAT as he calls upon the ghost of steve dahl to use his radio device if stating the caller's states subject as a nit so subtle reminder to stay on topic--- well you get one shot to have yo7r take/smack (THE JUNGLE BABY!) and then the hosts tell you if you're right or wrong. It"s not a feeeflowing convo like yoy get with les. IN MY HUMBLE/CORRECT OPINION THAT WORKS BEST FOR OVERNIGHTS.

SO YEAH i'll give you that les is cheesy, not a natural xomedian, and prone to go on and on lije a coked up curator at a sports museum... but that's what makes him hilarious. Its like being a fan of MST3K-- you apprecuate the funbad of the bad drops and goofy bits... pitch perfect for an overnight show cuz like, moreso than any other host/s, calling up les feels like you're pulling up a stool at the overnight saloon. Thats the shit. Drinkster is best used in the primetime slots where he's there to deliver a product that shapes opinions. Les is there to talk aports. He's also the biggest meatball on the station, which makes me wonder wht scorehead doesn't likw him.

Could it be that Scorehead is jealous that Les is an oldschool meatball likw hin, except der grobber is a sports encyclopedia who clearly knows more about sports than anyone at the station, but he's cool with it so he doesn't have to neurotically blow SABR to convince us that he's smart? Lol yeah btw i personally want to end the WAR stat cuz basically beer stine wants us to think it"s the be-all/end-all stat that reduces each player into a singke number which is oh so easy to rànk. SHOMER SHABBOS!

Now I'm going to go to the bar and talk to some women.

I guess Matty's trying to branch out:

http://mattabbatacola.com/

Quote:
Matt Abbatacola
Matt has been a part of Chicago radio since 2001. He is available to emcee private, corporate, and charity events. As an ordained minister, Matt can perform wedding ceremonies in and around Chicago. For rates and more information - matt@mattabbatacola.com

Come to think of it, shouldn't he be doing more of this? He's obviously hit his ceiling at the Score, so he should be thinking of ways to capitalize on what fame and goodwill he has.

Is his endgame to be a minister with his own church? He's personable, he has religious training, he moved to the suburbs, and he's given up the Team Lodge lifestyle. Plus, being almost 40 with a wife and kid is not a good look for a producer/update guy, but it's a good mature age to start leading a flock.

Why else would he have pussed out of piling on J Leman and Tim Brasik?

There is less money in being a minister than producer. Unless you are one of those crook ministers that steals from people. That might be the way to go, drinky.

I thought I remembered the same thing Bryan.

Laurence doesn't list it as a job he did at he station. Maybe he's ashamed of it.

Because the story of Laurence's time at the Score (where he works and you dont) is the greatest story ever told

1. Laurence Homles at the Score
2. Hamlet
3. Everything else

In what church is drinky ordained. There are not many semi urban people of Italian heritage in this country who are not catholic.

I think he's non denominational. Those are the ministers that make mad money and find the most amount of suckers. Like that son of a bitch, Joel Osteen. He packs ball parks and takes every last dime from the elderly and poor people. That's the business to get into, drinky. You won't get me to follow, but you'll get all of Bersntein's dumb ass callers.

I thought Moody was in the business of teaching people from all denominations how to be missionaries.

I heard drinky was at the top of his female circumcision class. He has a very steady hand and warm bedside manner

Drinky,
Did the Illinois Center for Broadcasting recruit you out of High School or did you just submit a drawing of a turtle to the wrong for profit scam?

You need to fancy up your website, drinky. This is pretty weak. What are your rates, by the way? Have you even got one person to hire you for anything?

Yes, Laurence Holmes did "Scoreboard Updates" at one point during his 15 years at The SCORE. In fact, he was pressed into service the other night to do an update because one member of his "A Team", Connor McKnight, got caught in traffic due to Lollapalooza.

How much do you think he got paid to emcee the 20 year anniversary roast?

Nothing.

Look, drink is throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. He's trying to see if he can make a buck. Everybody here is just as qualified to emcee corporate events as drinky. B&B have given him name recognition. So he's trying to parlay that into money. I doubt it works. I don't blame him for trying. What the hell?

Still, he could jazz up his website. I don't think the "I've been involved in radio since 2001" sells him. The Chicago skyline graphic does nothing either. But what do I know?

He should hire you to snazz it up a little. I'm sure no one would work harder for the enrichment of Matt Abbatacola than Beardown.
