Yep. I really don't like the homogenization of wrestling. My grade school Saturday nights were 5 o'clock mass followed by a gyros from Nick's enjoyed in front of that league from Texas with the Von Erichs.

This thread is every annoying Facebook meme about Chicago ever.

I miss tokens & the old paper transfers where the driver had to punch holes.

I also miss old school Channel 50 and WGN TV before it became a WB/CW affiliate (especially the old 9 logo), when they showed ALL the Cubs games.

Old school Bozo, before it became a Saturday morning educraptional show.

Good logo. Bring it back (and a full slate of Cubs games).

The green and white CTA buses are kinda cool, too. Red/white/blue gets boring. The accompanying logo is neat, too:

I think that's still on the side of one of the Wabash L stations.

Italian U-boat sub sandwich shops. They had really good sandwiches.

Also....The Bozo show. The waiting list for tickets was unreal. Got to go once as a child (6) and once as an adult with my kids.

I stood up in a wedding there in '84 on the Saturday night the Cubs lost to the Padres. Everyone was in the bar watching. The poor bride.

Thats funny....I did as well and to this day, the bride is pissed at the guys that brought little TV's (battery operated Watchman) to their tables to follow along with the game. I had a radio hidden in my tux pocket with an earplug keeping me informed. But the crowds gathered around those tables with the TV's and the reception was definitely affected. Sore subject to bring up in their home.

It was a very classy reception at the North Shore Country Club. There were no TV's set up in the room the reception was held in. They were brought in by guests that took it upon themselves to bring small hand-held TV's to the reception. Today, people would probably bring their laptops. In no way was the move (bringing TV's) classy, but the desire to monitor the game was too strong for those fans to refrain. I resisted that same urge, knowing it would seem tacky. However, I do recall walking over to one of the tables with a TV and watching it for a little while.

The only types that should have a radio in their pocket with ear pieces are FBI or CIA types.....

Yep. I really don't like the homogenization of wrestling. My grade school Saturday nights were 5 o'clock mass followed by a gyros from Nick's enjoyed in front of that league from Texas with the Von Erichs.

Yes! I loved that Texas wrestling, too. I believe the league in question was WCCW: World Class Championship Wrestling. The great thing about those shows was that the weekly six-man tag team matches would regularly erupt into fifteen-man riots pitting the Von Erichs and their allies (like "Gentleman" Chris Adams) against various nemeses, from the Freebirds (loved them) to Gino "I am YOUR Champion" Hernandez (awesome!) and his buddies, and the stable of exotic characters--Kamala, Bruiser Brody, possibly Abdullah the Butcher--managed by Skandor Akbar.

Most of those guys are dead now.

Don't forget three generations of Von Erichs in the ring when Fritz would come out of nowhere and take his belt off to whip someone and the oldest son from the third generation started wrestling.

Once upon a time, a ticket to "The Bozo Show" was arguably the toughest ticket in all of Chicago. HONEST! When that show was in production, I remember hearing that fans had to wait as long as 9 years for tickets to see Bozo, Cooky, Wizzo and the whole gang back then at WGN Studios. In fact, SHARK once not only attended a taping as a kid, but participated in an audience participation game. It involved sitting on balloons...

Well, it was no late, lamented Bud Light-fueled chlamydia factory like The Big Nasty, but I think it deserves a place in this thread.

I opened a bar called The Chlamydia Factory right next to the Spaghetti Warehouse.

Never caught on.

What'd you win? I won a Little Mermaid game and some Matt's cookies.

Fahey Flynn...He & Joel Daly used to anchor ABC7 News when ABC7 was known for 2 things. First, all the anchors sported the "Circle 7" pins. Second, ABC7 was known as "Eyewitness News" back in the day. Fahey was also one of the few anchors that also sported a bow tie before he passed away many, many years ago. Joel has long since retired, but he's still very alive to this day.

As for Bert Weinman Ford, I remember the late Lynn Burton (for certain) used to voice & appear in their commercials. The dealership, which used to be at 3535 N. Ashland Ave., used to sponsor reruns of "The Cisco Kid" & "The Lone Ranger" back in the day on WGN Channel 9, long before they became part of the CW Network.

SHARK, did whizzo or cookie touch you in a story that must be told kind of way? I always suspected those clowns of lewd behavior, but I never could prove it. I bet the archway cookies were laced with an early version of the date rape drug.
