Personal question, feel free to answer or not: In your job interviews post-college, did you include your GPA on your resume? I know many people do, I just don't see the value in it.


Yes. I also put on the awards and recognition that I had received for academic achievements.

Depends. 4.0 is meaningless nowadays because of the honors and college-level courses. My sister-in-law just graduated from high school with a 4.5 or so. They have adjusted GPAs that put everything on a 4.0 scale but those are meaningless too, because if you put her grades on that scale, she'd have something like a 3.3 while kids with much easier schedules would have higher GPAs.

If I were an employer, I'd much rather have the hard working dullard than the lazy smart kid. And in my experience, the lazy smart kids aren't quite as sly as they think they are. They just get by because most of the dullards are lazy too.

I put college GPA on my resume until I graduated from law school.

It sounds like you didn't really take advantage of what you could have based on your academic resume if there really was that much of a difference between your best friend and you.

You were then on an equal playing field and therefore, you wouldn't really see any advantage over him. I'm guessing that if you had gone to Harvard instead that you would have had a major advantage on him in terms of career prospects based at least in part to your high school resume which got you in there.

Yeah, I eventually took the GPA off after a few years in the working world. I kept reference to the awards received, however.

My high school had no honors program, so we had about 10 valedictorians. Some were the obvious geniuses, and others were dumb as a box of rocks that skated by with the easiest courses. Having the school setup like that made zero sense.

They did have "enriched" classes for the smart people, but they were not weighted any differently, which was just silly.

We also had about 10 Saluditorians (sp?)
