Actually the best part of that call wasn't even the curse. It was this...

Guest: Did you just stay in your bathtub and do the show from home today? No.
Bernstein: Well...
Boers: Don't be so sure...

RED ALERT! very mum regarding what's going on with Brian Urlacher. Not even the Bears' front office is aware what's REALLY going on with #54.

There are a few guys worth listening too, but as soon as they realize people believe that, they quickly move into shtick like Spaceman Lee or Ozzie Guillen and it's just saying outrageous shit for the sake of it.

beni listens so you don't have to...

ZZ knows nothing about the Cutler birth. Wasn't in the room. Zero chuckle factor applied.

ZZ makes funny about not being in regular season form...it's a lie.
- No one in the organIzation is talking about #54. It's a respect thing. 54 wants no information released.
- Dan claims it's a HIPPA thing. ZZ doesn't know for certain.
- Everyone believes when it's time to play, 54 will be on the field.
- ZZ asked if he sniffed out anything. Answer...basically no. Can't even take a guess as to what is going on.
- ZZ asked aboot Brandon Harden filling in for 54? Harden expected to be staple at safety position. He is a physical specimen. Threw another name out as back up if Roach fails.
- Can next guy up after 54 (Roach for now) be good enough to do the job? Roach understands position, too much made of his Sally like voice. Roach states he is a better player now as he can anticipate the offense better and scream out changes to the D faster than before. Didn't answer question.
- Left tackle discussed. Webb is the guy today, but he sucks and if anyone else steps up they may make a change. James Brown, Cory Brandon (?).
- Webb may be a little better with easier schemes and 1 year of NFL tackle football under his belt. Webb has to stop the false start stuff.
- Tice loves Carimi. Carimi is the kind of guy that doesn't need a lot of help. Carimi has had 4-5 consecutive good practices.

Useless tidbit: Bears are treating exhibition game like a regular season game meaning they will come up to Chitown, stay in hotel, regular meetings and whatnot.

That is all.

That "another name" is none other than future Hall of Famer Dom DeCicco, good ol' #58.

I might soon decide to take an unhealthy interest in all his activities.

Well, I'll be damned. Urlacher and the Bears want no information released, and a guy whose primary employer is the Bears couldn't dig up any dirt.

BEARS TALK...ON THE SCOOORRRE.

I love nothing more than tales of athletes blowing all their money and going b/k. I especially wish it upon greedy athletes. He had 4 years left on his contract and forced the Bears hand. He won in the short run. But you could give him $200M, and he would probably blow it all Tyson style.

The reason I enjoy all this is because it proves that giving people "easy" money doesn't really improve their lot in life. It happens with lottery winners all the time. They usually have a short burst of fun, and then end up in a bad spot.

I love to seeing successful people who get wealthy because they truly earn it through hard work. I don't view most athletes through that prism. Sure many work hard, but they have been given natural talents that allow them to coast through life. I have the same level of respect for their wealth as I do for someone who inherits it or is handed it by their rich parents.

I hope that helps.

If you think professional athletes "coast" through life and then just have millions thrown at them when the time comes, you don't know anything about athletics. Sure, they have a gift that gives them a tremendous head start (just as the CEOs and hedge fund managers that you seem to admire), but to say the can just "coast" to riches is a laughable statement.

Seems the studio has a bit more edge today. Is it just me or is Bernstein questioning Boers thoughts a little more than normal today? The "So what about it" question to Boers about the top 10 teams to make the WS was unusual. And maybe vice versa too with Boers getting on Bernstein about what I thought was the gymnast earning power gaffe, but I could have missed the point of why Bernstein got bent.

NBA big men are a notable exception. Generally, athletes must work extremely hard to get to play in the pros, but genetics can earn you some pretty big bucks in the NBA.

I'll give you Eddy Curry, and there will always be a few examples like that (mostly in basketball). But the vast majority of professional athletes certainly didn't "coast" to get rich. For every Eddy Curry there is a Marcus Vick who tried to "coast" and get there on pure talent and got burned.
