I think that's true, but he clearly finds it much more distasteful because it's a college program. He obviously holds college sports and fans of college sports in contempt. Yet he has no problem with them as a minor league for his beloved NBA.

Bernstein is the same guy who literally wants to get rid of the requirement that college football and college basketball players attend class, so he's not exactly a great moral beacon when it comes to how people should view college sports.

Not a perfect analogy, but the point is pretty much everyone turns a blind eye to something when it suits their purposes. I'm not sure why he chose this particular incident as the focus for all his outrage. There are plenty of other outrages in the world, some with connections to sports. A little variety would make for a better listen.

Sure he does: he grouses every other week that NBA prospects are played out of position because the program is out to win for itself more than it is to develop for somebody else. I'm sure he'd be fine with the D-League becoming more of a viable alternative.

Well, I think his take on that is that if you're going to be an engineer, you take engineering classes. If you're going to be a lawyer, you go to law school. So if you're going to be a professional basketball player, the court is your classroom. On the surface that seems logical. But you and I could talk all day about why it isn't.

Besides that, I find it somewhat amusing that a guy who makes his living on an all-sports radio station is outraged about America's obsession with sports.

I do agree with that.

But then again, I'd hate for this to become the "cause" show. The show is already not nearly as fun as it was used to be. If they started attacking all injustices, well you might as well mark me down as a former listener.

Ive largely stayed on the sideline of the college fans vs pro fans debate but it seems like the anti college people like to paint all college fans like the 10% that are over the top lunatics

Also, the idea that rooting for the college you went for is weird is one of the stupidest things Ive ever heard in my life.

Yes, we could, especially given just how few people in the whole world can make pro basketball or pro football a lifetime career. Some NFL players like Vick and Sam Hurd are forced to operate side businesses to make ends meet but we don't want to educate the 7th best player on Iowa and instead send him to the world at the age of 22 with a high school education and diminished learning skills because he hasn't read a book since senior prom?

If the head trainer for the Jets was molesting kids in the training room and Rex Ryan covered it up, bernstein would be attacking the trainer and Ryan, not everyone who ever played for the Jets or every Jets fan or every NFL fan, let alone everyone in New York and New Jersey. He'd still probably blame Tebow though.

Look at all the idiots we send into the real world who played minor league baseball or major-junior hockey straight out of high school but never made it to the show. They find ways to get by. Sometimes they even go to school after they're done. Seems to work out okay for all parties involved.

The Kama Sutra.

But that's just because I thought it was a book about Kamala's sutures.

If I had chosen to stay home and read a book, I would've had more fun than I actually had at the prom.

Not if the book was titled "Why you are a loser for staying home from the prom"

How is that better than having them be a college graduate at the age of 22? I'm not saying they have no chance if that happens, but having a college degree at the age of 22 is better than not having a college degree at the age of 22.

The other issue here is that if you remove the requirement to attend class, you are actually punishing those players who want to go to class by putting them at a major disadvantage or even cutting out opportunities completely.

I think that's true, but he clearly finds it much more distasteful because it's a college program. He obviously holds college sports and fans of college sports in contempt. Yet he has no problem with them as a minor league for his beloved NBA.

I mentioned this in the show thread. Some blue-collar kid from Allentown who couldn't care less about football goes to PSU because it's the best college he could afford, and he's so radioactive Dan and Terry won't hire him because HE MUST LOVE CHILD RAPE. Meanwhile the Bears kicker--who was actually part of the football team while the rape was occurring--is now openly defending the program, and their response is an almost apologetic shrug and a rueful "well, he should know better." Yeah, they're not meatballs at all.

I don't even think its a problem if you like college football or basketball and you root for the closest school to you.

One of the biggest NU football fans I know went to DePaul and grew up in Evanston. DePaul doesn't have a football team so NU is his football team.
