No, most people are not racist. I have never understood why anyone would suggest that, but I hear it somewhat commonly. Its almost as dumb as the assertion that some Southerns make that "The North is actually more racist than the South because we are more open about with our racism"...

Some people might hold ignorant assumptions (which are still not okay), but most people do not go out of there way to actively hate others. I do have to admit that I once saw a shirtless guy at a Sox game with a swastika tattoo. This was in 2006 though, so who knows where he was from. I have also heard very occasional nutballs year out racist shit, but they were fucking nuts and obviously idiots.

I always think its funny when white people complain about being discriminated against and then think that anyone who disagrees with them are doing so because they feel "guilty".

I don't see how that matters. Larry Bird thinks that blacks are superior basketball players and was offended when the opposing coach used a white player to guard him. The fact that he buys into the racism doesn't make it any less racist.

It matters because you used it as an example of how you believe most people are racist.

If Kid Cairo and I both hear the same thing and have the same reaction, how is it that I am racist and he's not?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it is your stance that only white people in America can be racist. You also are saying that stereotyping a news story means the person is racist.

The question is would an Asian or Middle Eastern person also have a certain characterization that is similar to a white person? If so, wouldn't they also be racist? I say yes, but you think that Asians in America can't be racists, unless I am missing something here.

I read this entire thread and I still don't know what the racist comments were.

In Japan, Korean, and China Asians most certainly are racists. There's just no structure in the U.S. for them to be racist. Sure they can be prejudiced. That's why they sometimes follow whites- and particularly blacks- around their stores.

I'm not suggesting that people of different races are inherently more moral than those of other races. Such a viewpoint would be racist itself. If 80% of the American population were black and their ancestors had seized Europeans and brought them here in chains, I'm sure they would be carrying the baton for racism. The fact is, it just didn't happen that way.

Didn't hear it either. From what I've gathered, Bernstein said Robie Gould should know better with regards to his wrong comments about Penn State. Goff got offended. The assumption is that Goff was mad that Bernstein thought Gould (white) should "know better" when he didn't say that for Levar Arrington (black) and Franco Harris (black) in regards to their wrong comments about Penn State.

Got it?

Then we learned in this thread that Franco Harris is half Italian and half black. So that makes this a bigger mess.

When I listened to it on the podcast, it didn't really come across that way to me, but Goff sure as hell took it that way.

Bernstein has done worse than this one. You could give him the benefit of the doubt here. Other times it's been much more blatant. But if Goff is mad, then we have to be mad. That's how it works.

Yeah. This one wasn't racist. I just heard it. Goff's "racism radar" went off unnecessarily. I mean, slight chance, but I don't think so.

I do remember a "Goff vs. Bernstein's racist comments" thing that happened a few years ago. I don't remember the specifics but it was about Milton Bradley. It was when Bradley claimed that Cubs fans were racicst. Bernstein said something that set off Goff. It got pretty heated. Like I said, I don't remember specifics. Anybody remember? I do remember thinking Goff had a good case of Bernstein being racist on this one.

A piece of advice, Beardown. Why not listen to the podcast before developing your next theory with an on-air comment?

I was going by what the posters said. Goff thought it was racist, that came across pretty clear after hearing it.

There have been legit racist stuff said by Bernstein as I mentioned in the post above. So it's still a good thread.
