  In the Pirates Rockies game, a guy scored from 2nd on a groundout because nobody was covering home. How can you leave the plate, of all goddam bases, uncovered?

Isn't ironic that so many guys who start for the A's were drafted by the Sox when Beane is so superior to Kenny?

The A's develop pitchers well, I think.

BTW, Just because Michael Lewis thought a trade was lopsided 13 years ago and Kenny was on the other side, doesnt mean Beane walks around with a sign saying "Better than Kenny"

I thought both were fairly disrespectful of KW in the book and was shocked to hear he and KW are very good friends.

You think Kenny is better than Beane?

It seems to me that most people think that Beane is far better.

I dont know what people think but some act as if

A) Beane wrote the book himself

B) There was an entire chapter titled "Why Im better than Kenny Williams"

I think most people know Beane didn't write the book, but he was most certainly a willing participant as Michael Lewis aggrandized him.

And Williams was most certainly painted as a moron Beane called when he wanted to take advantage of someone.

Hard to say. Both do a very good job.

If I was ranking GM's theyd be very close.

I think Beane told a story about a trade and Lewis painted Williams as dumb

Either way it was 12 years ago. I think people make too much of it.

I agree, but it was more than just one trade. And if a guy had been writing a book about Kenny Williams he could have easily spun both of those trades the other way.

Take the Durham deal, for example. I don't think it's good reporting to fail to mention that MLB was looking at a new CBA after that season and all signs pointed to the elimination of compensation picks for free agent signings. Beane gambled and ended up with the picks for Durham. Okay, good for him. But why fail to mention the background? That isn't reporting. It's public relations.

They did just make a movie about it too. I'd say it's still relevant.

Oh, and unless I'm mistaken, Beane has never refuted anything about Kenny Williams in there either. I have a feeling that Beane enjoys the fact that he looks smart in it by making Williams look dumb.

They should put an asterisk on every mention of Kenny Williams that says" *-Won World Series in 2005.

I think there is some jealousy on Beane's part that Kenny actually went to Stanford. When you get right down to it, they're really kind of similar guys as far as their careers in sports and the trajectories of those careers are concerned.

One thing I'll say about Beane though, he has enough sense not to try to draft himself. Kenny drafts himself every year and keeps expecting different results.

I completely disagree. What about Beane makes you think that?

That he never really corrected the characterization of Kenny being the dumb guy.

Note: I didn't read the book because reading sucks.

No correction needed. Kenny was on the wrong side of the deals talked about in the book (Arguable but most would agree)

The conclusions people draw from that are not Beane's problem

I don't consider swapping a starting catcher for a one out reliever a good trade for the guy giving up the catcher.

If he thought something was unfair to an individual in the book he'd say something.

He obviously has no problem with the characterization of Kenny in the book. That's fine. He has that right.

I guess the movie refreshes things. I paid 0 attention to the movie, so maybe Im not coming from the right place

You think that statements attributed to you that make a person in your industry look bad are not your problem? I think KW has been uncharactaristically gracious about the whole thing.

What statements were attributed to Beane? Anything scathing was said by Lewis.
