Oh hey, this thing. I appreciate the Penn State talk more than most people here, I know, but I found this whole "if you complain about Penn State talk I'm gonna block you from texting!" to be petulant and shitty. The added commentary on how the best thing about being connected to people is being able to block people was especially petulant and shitty. Again, it's not an opinion I personally hold, but if people can articulate their feelings on Penn State talk without resorting to death threats or "your gay"s or other sundry acts of raving lunacy, they should be able to do so without having their texting privileges (sponsored by Northwestern University football) permanently suspended.
It's stuff like this that makes people think Mitch Rosen is a total nutless wonder. What program director worth his salt listens to his afternoon drive host basically say "if you don't like me relentlessly indulging a niche story beyond the station's defined purview of Chicago sports, then fuuuuuuck you," and doesn't reel him in? God, it's even more likely that he came in the studio and said "guys, that was an AWESOME segment! You guys are GREAT! Keep up the good work!"
Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's the role of the listeners to program the station, because if programming were put to that sort of hypothetical referendum, it'd probably be nothing but wall-to-wall talk about stupid motherfucking fantasy football, but Dan's mantra of "it's my show and I'll talk about whatever I want" isn't a very good one when what he wants to talk about doesn't interest people. It's another order of magnitude up from the Blackhawks ouroboros of "I'll talk about them when they're important"/"the Blackhawks are important, you should talk about them"/"I no wanna!", except this topic is also kind of creepy and annoying for lots of people, I guess. And we haven't even gotten to the penis swordfights yet!
So I guess I'll just sit back and enjoy the fact that the Score is a horseshit operation because I enjoy the belittling of perspective-deficient college sports fanatics!
