I can't stand Hawk, but I was watching last night, and I think he and Stone did a great job of describing the events of an ump having a crappy night. His strike zone for the Sox was completely different than the one for the Mariners. It was ridiculous.

Hawk had every reason to go off even more than he did, but he kept it pretty professional, and I give him kudos. Though I'm not a Sox fan, I watch because I have some players on my fantasy team and it was pissing me off. You could see AJ, who got thrown out, jawing with the ump while in his crouch behind the plate. The homeplate ump sucked last night. Plain and simple. He deserved all of the comments directed at him.

I will watch the link, but it does seem like every game he has an issue.

The one thing I do agree with is that he has perpetuated an edge v The sox from the umps and if I was Robin I would get pissed.

The umps hear about this and you can't tell me the constant bitching by Hawk on the air doesnt effect the way an umpire calls a game. I know it shouldn't, but they are only human and you keep calling an ump bad at what he does, eventually there will be a call where they say "Fuck You Hawk" and go the other way on a call.

I have no doubt the umps think Hawk is a complete tool, but I don't think they give a rat's ass about what he's saying in the booth during the heat of the moment. No way.

If that's really true, wouldn't it mean Hawk was right?

I am not saying he is wrong or right, but if you cry about it every night and you bitch on the air every night about how bad every ump is, you dont think they all know it ?

Does Hawk bitching change anything for the positive for the Sox? Never....It will only become a bad situation

When its getting national coverage from ESPN, I hardly think its over-reacting in this case. Others maybe, but not this.

I think its more of a distraction in the clubhouse than it is for the umpires. Hawk goes nuts. Story goes national. Media bombards the team with questions about the umps. Can't be a postitive impact. Not sure about the umpires caring at all.

Hawk did not have a breakdown at all, Joyce and Ventura had the breakdown if ya want even say breakdown at all. ESPN is a joke, and you pussies think the sox get screwed because Hawk rags on the umps, that strike zone was horrible.

So the TV announcer is what gets people to pay for an actual ticket to watch the game live?

Hawk has done and said far worse. He didn't raise his voice at all and was totally honest in how he described what happened. He was also true in this instance.

The ump was bad last night. Hawk described it calmly. He was a lot calmer than AJ was as you could clearly hear him yelling "horseshit" and "That's fucking brutal, you're fucking brutal" at the ump.

What is the logic that a player and the manager can be mad at an ump and say that he's doing a bad job but it's a big deal that an announcer does it?

It's just Hawk's reputation that made this a story. An announcer is allowed to state when he thinks an ump is doing a bad job.

After watching the video it's even more laughable to suggest this was either a breakdown or that he would possibly get suspended. This wouldn't even qualify in a top 25 greatest Hawk rants list. Like Frank said, he never raised his voice and in a pretty rational tone said that the umpire was doing terrible. I'm pretty sure that an announcer is allowed to say he thinks the umpire is doing a terrible job.

Bud has no balls. He is Jerry's buddy, so he won't do shit to Hawk. If I was him, I would force Jerry's hand and say he's got to go. He really is an embarassment to the Sox and MLB. With having the MLB ticket, I watch lots of games, and Hawk is about the only one who bitches non stop about umpiring. It's ok for maybe a minute or 2, but you can't do it the rest of the game non stop.

I didn't catch the first inning when the Sox supposedly got screwed (and maybe they did) but after Ventura and AJ got kicked out I thought I heard Hawk mentioned how they would get back at umpires who might have been squeeing them, have the catcher miss a pitch and hit the ump.

Maybe I heard this wrong, but this too me is a lot more troubling than the usual Hawk ranting about umps. Imagine if that actually happened where a Sox catcher let a pitch hit an ump, or if a basketball player threw a ball at ref, or a hockey player wristing a shot toward a ref....oops, it just go away from me

Hawk infects some White Sox fans with the Umpires are against us thing.


The calls even out over 162 games and the White Sox specifically got the benefit of some quetionable calls in the 2005 post season as I recall.


It really is silly that certain fans know Umpires and their tendencies and past transgressions. That comes from the announcer for the most part.

I'm glad there's an announcer that holds umpires accountable for their inadequacies.
