People hate Hawk. That's the best I can come up with.

People that aren't Sox fans hate Hawk. Some Sox fans find his shtick tiresome and somewhat annoying. Like BRick said, they'll likely miss him when he's gone. He gets on my nerves sometimes but it's tough to imagine a game without him. He doesn't understand WAR like Len does though.

Agreed.

He can be annoying at times but he's ok.

Loved Hawk with Drysdale and Wimpy, but he's just tolerable with DJ and Stone.

Well, he did go out of his way to say an umpire doesnt know the game and needs to be retrained.

Thats a little much

I thought his rant in Tampa at the end of May was a lot worse than this. He said this tape should be sent to the league offices to show how bad Barksdale was on Saturday. I didn't hear him say anything about training.

Oh yeah, that is what I was talking about. This recent one wasnt much. I could see him getting in trouble for the Tampa one

That's what I was thinking, too. When I first saw this pitch, I thought it was low and possibly a little outside.

Still love to hear Hawk go on a rant though.

I would guess Hawk has had a problem with every ump out there.

The best he says is 'Then call it that way for everyone"...thats his compliment.

It's not Hawks job to call out the Umps...only bad shit is going to happen

That is not accurate at all.

I watch very little of the Sox because its hard to stomach Hawk but from the little I have watched I noticed they rarely ever used the pitch trax thing. From watching the Cubs, Pirates, Reds and other teams I see that thing all the time. Do they not use it as much beause of hawk?

Whatever. I've watched a small sample, maybe an inning here and there and I haven't seen it. That's why I was asking but apparently I'm just making shit up and being completely inaccurate.

They use that almost every at-bat, sometimes several times within an at bat, so yes, your claim is baseless, and without merit.

ya...they use the pitch trax thing often and it has really helped shut hawk the fuck up for the most part.

I'm curious...and an honest question as I have only seen the replay once and have not heard, only read, hawks comments.....Did they show the pitch or questionable pitches on pitch trax?

I think Hawk sucks!

If AJ didn't frame that last pitch, they might have gotten a strike call.

I would be more upset at Joyce for letting that little bitch hide. If you are gonna throw guys out you have to man up and stand up to them.

I think that pitch got the plate coming across, but I do agree with you guys- it could have gone either way. I just think that was the straw that broke the camel's back. A.J. had to be giving it to him all game. The guy's strike zone was wildly inconsistent. He certainly isn't known as one of the better plate umpires in the game.

A.J. didn't break protocol. He didn't turn around to jaw at him and yeah, he framed the pitch, but he certainly didn't hold it there to show the goof up.

God damn....I won't make the mistake of asking a question again. A simple, yes they use it with the same frequency of every other team would have sufficed. If I saw it when I was watching I wouldn't have asked. The handful of innings I have seen have only been on wgn but I doubt that makes a difference. It could have been garbage time in the 8th inning of a blowout when I was watching. whatever....now I know.

Hawk certainly complains more than most announcers and probably the most of all MLB announcers.

Ive had the MLB package a few different times and unless there is some new complainin announcer I havent heard, he is far and away the worst at complaining about the umpires.

You led by saying "they rarely ever used the pitch trax thing". That is false.

Your question of "Do they not use it as much because of Hawk?" is then rendered moot.

Yesterday 1st inning was a perfect example of why Hawk is full of shit. Gavin Floyd induces a grounder to the 3rd basemen and either the throw or the Olmedo's turn drew him waaay off 2nd base. Jim Joyce calls him out at 2nd. So instead of 3rd and 2nd with 1 out there is a guy on 3rd with 2 outs. If that happened to the Sox he wouldn't have stopped bitching for 3 innings how, "Stone pony, that call totally changed the game! 3rd and 2nd 1 out is totally different that 3rd with 2 out. Umps gotta call what they see!". Instead he was trying to feed the viewer some bullshit about how neighborhood calls have to be made to prevent injuries etc. blah blah blah.

The pitch trax is a double edge sword with Hawk. Sometime it shuts his cranky ass up but other times he pouts like a diva.

Are you saying the "neighborhood play" isn't customary? The rulebook says certain things and the umpires call the game a certain way. The strike zone is letters to knees. When is the last time you saw a letter-high pitch called a strike? This only becomes a problem when some goof decides that today he's going to call it the way the rulebook states rather than by custom of the day. The Cubs won a pennant that way once.

Hawk sucks.

http://awfulannouncing.blogspot.com/2007/06/great-moments-in-mlb-homerism.html

An inning or so after this happened...he blatantly accused the umpires of "making up" calls! No one can defend that.

Yup. Cubs fans (sans RPB), we know you hate Hawk. You can stop bitching about him. If you aren't Sox fans, why are you watching the games anyway? Maybe you should put your energy into rooting for the Tigers instead of bitching about Hawk 8) 8)

I'm saying exactly what I wrote. It wasn't even close to be considered "neighborhood". And if it were to occur to the Sox, Hawk would've thrown a tantrum for 3 innings. And for Hawk to say Joyce was correct and justifying the out call was simply bullshit. Call it a lucky break and move on. Insufferable.

FC - Some people enjoy watching/listening baseball. It's kind of a fun sport to watch dude.
