I've heard Jenny McCarthy had a serious health issue pop up this last week. Perhaps Brian unable to practice anyway in precaution over his knee was with her.

Nice job, Mully

YAY!!!

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher reiterated on Sunday that his recent absences from training camp came as a result of a "personal reason, just like coach (Lovie) Smith said," while adding that he'll be healthy enough to play in the regular-season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.

Asked about a timetable for his return to the field, Urlacher said, "September 9, I'll be ready to play for sure."

Urlacher missed six consecutive workouts entering the team's preseason-opening loss to the Denver Broncos on Thursday night, which the linebacker didn't attend.

Wait-and-See With Urlacher
Plenty of questions surround Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher, and soon enough we should have some answers, writes Kevin Seifert. Blog

Four of the absences were attributed to soreness in his left knee, in which he sprained the medial collateral and posterior cruciate ligaments during the Bears' 2011 regular-season finale. The other two absences last Tuesday and Wednesday were excused by the team so Urlacher could deal with a personal matter.

"(The season opener is) all that matters to me," Urlacher said. "Preseason games and all these practices -- I'd love to be out there -- but I'm not gonna put myself in jeopardy of missing the first game."

Urlacher returned to training camp Saturday, but the club held him out of practice. Smith revealed that Urlacher continues to battle soreness in the knee, saying "exactly when he'll be back, I can't tell you that."

Surely, the Bears aren't rushing Urlacher back. Urlacher indicated the soreness he's experienced in the knee isn't directly related to his excused absences from practice and Thursday night's exhibition opener.

Urlacher said the knee feels better, but is unsure whether it's an issue that will linger throughout the season. The eight-time Pro Bowl linebacker also indicated that he didn't undergo additional testing on the knee during his absence.

"Our doctors are the best. I trust what they say. I just do what I'm told to do," Urlacher said. "I practiced the first four or five days (of training camp) and felt pretty good. Then it got sore and a little swollen. So I'm taking some time off right now."

Urlacher remains unconcerned about how the knee will react upon his return to the practice field because he expects the team to "monitor my reps and try to make sure it doesn't blow up again."

So it wouldn't come as a surprise if the club held out Urlacher for the remainder of the preseason in an attempt to reduce the potential setbacks that could occur by exposing the knee to contact.

Chicago Bears

ESPN Chicago analyzes the Bears' offseason moves.

Offseason moves | Bears blog »

Asked whether the knee ever will be 100 percent this season, Urlacher said, "I hope."

"I felt great coming into training camp," he said. "The brace doesn't allow me to do a lot of things, but (I) still ran pretty fast and moved around pretty good (early in camp). I've been off for nine or 10 days now. It feels better. I'm not running around on it of course, (so) it's not gonna swell up as bad."

Smith acknowledged Saturday the team is "pretty banged up" at the linebacker position, which is why they signed Xavier Adibi and K.C. Asiodu. Jabara Williams has missed time with a hamstring injury and Dom DeCicco is expected to miss an extended period because of a pulled groin.

"As you look down the football field today, we had five linebackers out of uniform," Smith said Saturday. "It's hard to practice that way."

Sounds like a great fake episode of 90210. Start writing.

I've never written any 90210 fanfic. I only watched it a few times because I know Ian Ziering from when he was on Guiding Light.

I wrote Bones and Castle fanfic for awhile. Haven't written any Bones since June of 2011. Castle I wrote 2 stories a couple of years ago. Now that both couples are together the muse left the building.

So we should take Urlachers word for it that he will be ready to go for the regular season opener just like he said he'd be ready to go for the start of training camp. Got it.

A veteran taking advantage of a chance to get out of training camp. Shocking.

Thats what I figured it is too. Just wish they'd come out and say it. Though doesnt Lovie have a " if you dont practice during the week you cant play on Sunday" rule of some sort? Be interesting to see if he actually keeps that up in regards to McCarthys boyfriend.

Even though he has returned to camp, Urlacher still hasn't practiced with the team.

We still have no clue regarding the state of his knee.

It's interesting that Adrian Peterson had ACL surgery 8 months ago and is set to begin practicing with the Vikings.

Urlacher "sprained" his knee in January, but he's still not ready to practice.

So he had his knee scoped today. So all the Brians fine posturing out of his and Lovies mouth is / was absolute bullshit as usual.

Urlacher admitted that practicing early in camp may have negatively affected his knee.

"Being out there for two and a half, three hours probably didn't help, and running around," he said. "But it's practice, you gotta do it.

"I think just the shock of being out there so long and doing so many movements like that was too much for my knee."

If he can't make it through an August practice I doubt he'll be effective in an actual regular season game. Hopefully they are coaching up Roach.

Ole' Nicky The Roach Clip is gonna need a tad bit more than "coaching up" to replace an aging and ouchie Brian Urlacher.

I hate those sprains that take 8 months to heal. Im sure because he's an athlete, his sprains are much worse than the average persons though.

From Vaughn McClure's column over the weekend:

Sunday, Urlacher was asked whether he had more tests done on the knee as a result of the soreness. He somewhat sidestep the question, although Urlacher has no intentions of undergoing any type of arthroscopic procedure.

"Our doctors are the best," he said. "I trust what they say (and) our trainers. I just do what I'm told to do."

Some have wondered why Urlacher never underwent surgery in the first place. It was unnecessary because of the high risk involved with repairing his second-degree MCL and PCL sprains. Gus Gialamas, an orthopedic surgeon for the SeaView Orthopedic Medical Group in San Clemente, Calif., explained the reasoning.

"It's true that we don't operate on Grade 2 MCL injuries as these deal well with time and physical therapy," Gialamas said. "PCL injuries are difficult to treat operatively. At best, we can slightly tighten up the PCL. Usually, with good rehab, this injury heals well and should not cause too much difficulty returning to sport at full activity."

So is this typical Bears BS or did McClure find his own Dr. Nick Riviera?

So maybe Urlacher really is done?

Moon Mullin says Urlacher has had three arthroscopic procedures on his knee since January. Mulligan reports that Urlacher used his recent hiatus from the team to seek experimental treatment in Europe. And John Clayton opines that microfacture knee surgery may be required.

It's hard to identify the truth in the midst of so much speculation, but Mullin's account of Urlacher's evolving knee problem seems realistic--and depressing. In light of Mullin's revelations, Emery's inaction on the MLB front seems especially perplexing. Nick Roach is not an adequate substitute at that position--frankly, I don't even think he's a legitimate NFL starter--and Geno Hayes doesn't inspire much confidence on the strong side. It's frightening to think that Blake Costanzo may be the best healthy MLB currently on the Bears' roster. Major problems are apparently looming on the horizon for the Bears' defense. Let's hope Cutler and Marshall are as good as they think they are.

My guess is the Bears are screwed unless the offense can pick up the slack.

It's time to sound the alarm on this.

His knee is never going to be the same? So we went from a minor injury that would definitely be healed after the last game of the year to him missing OTA, to him missing training camp to him having multiple surgeries to him being ready to start the season to him never being the same again. I fucking hate the bears reporting of injuries.

It sure sound like to me that this is Urlachers last year.

His last year may have been last year.

Based on everything we've heard, I can't imagine he'll make much of an impact this season.

Given that Nick Roach sucks, this could be a very long year for the defense.

Maybe the writing is on the wall for Lovie and the Tampa 2 and Phil Emery will move his first round pick into a linebacker spot in the 3-4 next year.

He's gonna practice but barely. They're keeping him almost entirely on the shelf until Sunday. He said himself he's "pain-free" but his knee is simply never going to be the same. This may be his last season.
