You can't import customized rosters, you can't change players numbers/positions/equipment. You can only use your custom rosters in exhibition mode, which is a goddamn waste of my time.

So because you cant EDIT players, which is dumb, or use customized rosters (also dumb) you now HATE the renamed Franchise mode.

That's fine. Thats your prerogative. But to say they got rid of Franchise mode is incorrect.

Dewskie wrote:

Your first post indicated otherwise. That's why you were corrected by others. It was misleading, but again, thats your opinion and its all good.

Dewskie wrote:
If you can show me where I can play a game mode that allows me use custom rosters and edit players equipment, jersey number, position, then I'll happily look like a jackass. It's not exactly anything new for me.

Im not sure why that would be important to anyone. Im skeptical about the custom rosters thing, but that wouldnt bother me anyway.

I did no such thing. Seems it was you who didnt read or comprehend my post.

Well, I exaggerated for effect but my main point was that you went in with incredibly low expectations and ready to be underwhelmed by the game, is that not true?

Dewskie wrote:

Ok, that has nothing to do with what I said. Good to know.

Also EA finally fixed commentary (sort of). Only took them almost a decade, but hey kudos, right? New Nike Uniforms, guys (please ignore that almost all of them are wrong in one way or another. There's a 17-page thread at operationsports that's stockpiling them as we speak).

Remember last year when EA re-invented franchise mode!? Man that was so fun! They were so proud of it; so proud of it in fact they completely dismantled it for Madden 13 and replaced it with shiny new shit that shows you twitter feeds and makes simulating a regular season take over an hour.

All of that is great and does nothing to disprove the point that you went in with a pre concieved notion.

Dewskie wrote:

Actually he only worked on the Facebook version this year. That's what they are pushing real hard I guess.

EVEN though it's basically a roster update with a few pixels adjusted here and there, and EVEN though I'm required to pay for an XBOX live account just to get updates for rosters they prematurely stocked back in June, and EVEN though I'll probably be sick of it within a couple weeks because despite all those "innovations" the commentary, game introductions, and new flashy menus don't change the fact that it's more or less the same game I've irrationally bought over the last 8 years, I still hand over my $60 year after year, hoping it'll make me forget how awesome Madden 2004 was.

So basically, this whole post was bitching about how bad the game has been for years and you are attempting to use it to prove that you ARENT juding it based on previous years?

You guys take this shit a little too seriously for me. Im not a "gamer" I play two games a year MLB The Show and Madden and Im happy with both of them.

You have way higher expectations for the video gaming experience. Diff'rent strokes for Diff'rent folks.

It automatically pops up for you to challenge a questionable play. At least it did for me. A little red icon on the screen that says LT to challenge play popped up on the left hand side of the screen.

I haven't seen anything like that. I'll have to look closer I guess.

Yeah that doesn't happen for me.

This madden sucks. I cant wait for nba2k

If they made another Rocky, would you see it expecting it to be amazing?

Im not sayiing he shouldnt. Im saying previous years dissappointment is affecting his review of this year's version.

Ill defer to the rest of you on video game history and its future but I thought Dewskie and a few others here were going in with extreme prejudice.

The trading might be the worst thing about all of it. They basically turned trading off.

Actually RPB, I always go into playing a new Madden hoping it will be great. Dewskie's review worries me, but I'm still going to give the game a spin. I have the demo. Thought the gameplay was solid, but the career mode will be my make or break for purchase. I think its not worth arguing with you because you are the one that is incredible biased, not dewskie. But keep telling yourself whatever you want to believe. At least we agree on the viewing of cycling.

The trading thing is the worst aspect about this game. I guess it's aimed to make it more realistic, and it does, but I would like to make a few trades to get younger and it's pretty much impossible.

I like the actually gameplay. That's improved. Run defense is still way too easy but that's ok. Clay Matthews is a beast so they got that right.

Again, your trite and incoherent garbage-style of posting makes my bowels shift and bleed. My comment was absolutely douchey, because I am a douchebag. If you don't like it, that's just too goddamn bad. Oh, and nice rebuttal by calling it 'dated.' That one really cut deep.

And don't blame for "baggage" when I have every right to carry it, considering there hasn't been a Madden truly worth full price in many years.

I dont know how to explain this anymore.

I dropped the line about my brother in law and getting the game free as a joke. Like its some big deal to know someone who works for EA. Its clearly NOT.

I really dont put a lot of thought into the Madden franchise.

Dewskie's post seemed to include years of frustration. And sometimes I find the Madden critiques incomplete. There are no solutions, only complaints.

But, again, Im not a huge gamer. Im happy with The Show and Madden pretty much every year.

AAAAND we finally get to the answer. You did indeed bring years of baggage to your review.

That was all I said, and obviously, I was correct.

Glad we got that settled. Peace. Enjoy the game (or don't)

It sounds like the changes they made were geared to make the game more realistic from a front office standpoint.

Less Editing, harder to trade, harder to just sim over seasons. Is that right or no?

You lost me on the third one.

Why would making the game more tedious to simulate help realism from a front office standpoint? EA Sports would like Franchise mode seasons to last 5 months like in real life? What next - Madden will only be playable in the winter via authentication servers?

Fair point.

I mean as far as not being able to skip drills and gameplanning. That realism cuts both ways. Sometimes its welcome. Im sure you remember the days when The Show had every all star as a Free Agent after one year in franchise. I much preferred when it was more realistic

I only rarely buy games. Very little time to play them so I can't justify the expense.

I guess I am the only one who thinks this game is great ..best Madden In recent memory..the defensive hits are great and much more realistic then any Madden ever made...Only knock is they do not have the all time greats on their own team..only on the all time Canton teams.

I'm still undecided because I haven't played the game. It may be the best in years. Hell, I hope it is. Dewskie's review gave me concern because, for me, I enjoy building up a bad team in franchise and drafting real players from the ncaa draft classes which sounds like that may not be possible anymore? I've played the demo, and gameplay I feel pretty good about the game. I've always enjoyed the front office stuff just as much as actually playing the game though.

It's literally impossible to trade for any rookies. It's pretty much impossible to trade in general. By far the worst quality about this years madden.

I'll actually defend Madden franchise on that one. Who the hell is trading rookies if it's not on draft day. Virtually that never happens. That's a fairly unrealistic way to build a team.

Agreed, Ryan.

That's what Im saying. In fact, trading for rookies might be banned in the new CBA.

Its interesting though how different all of our Madden needs are.

Dewskie needs traditional Franchise
FF likes trading
312 player is all about the All Time teams.

Personally, I stopped editing players when the roster updates became available. The reason I used to edit, was because Adrian Peterson being an 84 his rookie year was not realistic. So I bumped him up to 96 or whatever.

I still havent gotten it. Its sitting in my mailbox at my apartment.

To me, as long as their is a way to do a franchise and the QB vision thing is not back, Im good.

You can't trade for a Frachise player either like Jay Cutler(who got traded), or a top 3 pick, which people regularly trade up for.

Edit: I understand the rookies thing. But Ben Tate? It is wholly unrealistic that Houston would not consider trading him. In fact, he's probably on the block right now. There's countless examples. Trading for rookies might be unrealistic, but so is not allowing any trades except for old bums who are a 70 overall.

During the draft it will just decline your trade. Even if you offer Rodgers and two first round picks for a top 3 pick. If you try to trade for anyone not on the trade block it will say "The team is unwilling to trade _____"

Hmmm. That seems kinda realistic.

I mean no one would turn down Rod and 2 1sts but no one would offer that either

Right but if realism is the goal then give us more than two draft classes of picks to work with. Let us make a RGIII type of trade in the game. They pretty much made it impossible to trade up til you get to like the 20th overall pick. That's not even close to realistic. If realism was their goal on trades, they failed just as bad as when they let you trade two first rounders for any franchise QB. They went too far to the other end of the spectrum. Again, the Ben Tate nonsense is the best example of this. I don't consider it my fault that I'm annoyed that I have to use Ced Benson as an RB in my first season.

The good reviews have turned mediocore to below average.

My guy sent me a response a few days back and the change in rating went from 86 to 49 in three days.

At least this is funny....

@ochocinco That awkward moment when you realize you're not on Madden13 and have to create yourself...

Their new superstar mode is much improved.

Biggest flaw in it is that your team sucks much more than they should. When I simulate, the Packers offense rightfully wrecks shit. When I play as a LB in career mode, the offense averages like 18 ppg. They average like 30 when I simulate. Pretty stupid.

I almost always have music or radio on when I play, but I finally got around to listening to the announcers. The "Hello friends" from Nantz makes me laugh. Other than that I don't see where all the "at least the announcing is much improved" talk comes from. It's still stupid bullshit that often doesn't even make sense. For example, I'll do a screen pass on first and 10 and gain 8 yards and they say "the receiver had noooo chance for a first there, it looks good on the stat sheet that they got a completion, but the QB has to make sure he gets it past that line". Um no, I have three downs to get a first, not one. There's a bunch more dumb shit.

They made being a TE/WR way too damn easy. I can easily average 15 catches/250 yds/3 TDs without trying on 8 minute/accelerated clock settings on all madden.

Not being able to trade is still stupid as fuck.
