There's a new rule in college football where, if a player's helmet comes off during a play, he must come to the sideline and sit out one play. What is the fucking logical fallacy behind this pile of shit? This forces backups to play at what may be critical situations. I observed one such moment in the GT-VT game. The GT quarterback had to sit out a 3rd down play in VT territory and the backup came in and promptly threw an incomplete pass. The fuck? And what's to prevent players from intentionally trying to remove helmets at crucial moments? Like when a team in running the 2 minute drill and the defense is on its heels. Need a breather? No problem just let me creatively lose my helmet when making a tackle and slow down the offense.

I believe it was put in to ensure that the players were securely fastening their helmets on every play in an attempt to reduce injuries, but I will defer to SHARK for the final answer.

Probably has more to do with expecting the kids to be checked out for a concussion after the play in which they lost their helmets.

The new helmet rule has everything to do with players taking their helmet off & running around like a clown celebrating & showboating.
I like the rule.
