I'm commuting all the way downstairs. I'll blame it on the dog.

Eat a couple of Fiber One bars tonight and then call it a new runner for the stairs.

I predict we will hear about the no hold call on Cruz in the 2nd quarter which obviously could have been called. Actually, also the offensive block in the back on Cruz was a little weak also. I don't think this was the smoking gun game for the replacement refs, but I have a feeling it is coming in a couple of days....

I have seen hundreds of worse officiated games with the old refs..these guys looked to be an upgrade.

Every thread with Hochuli in the subject line should appear in DBOTW. He's a rambling attention whore who sucks at his job. Mac and Bernstine's gushing over him is one of their worst qualities.

Fans bitch & moan about the regular refs constantly. The replacement refs will be no worse. Being a good ref isn't like being a good player. Lots of guys can ref Football. As much as the NFL refs might want to believe that they are an elite chosen group, the truth is there are hundreds hundreds of refs who are all just as good. No one will notice the difference.

Yeah, your right but you could say that about the "real" Refs too. Every week there is something. The NFL is crazy to put a billion dollar business in jeopardy over what these guys are asking.

The NFL is far from being in jeopardy. Refs are a dime a dozen.

Yeah, that is like the Walmart greeters thinking they are the only ones who can handle the entrance ...anyone with average intelligence could be trained to ref a football game fairly quickly.

Despite my creation of this thread, I don't think that is correct.

I fully expect this to go horribly wrong.

I just like saying "by rule".

If that were true, then what grounds would the "regular" NFL refs have to hold a strike?

Given the circumstances, I thought the replacements did a fine job. Of course they're going to blow a call or two. Refs with 30 years experience do that, too. Looking forward to the meltdown Sunday.

None, which is why it was foolish to think they had any leverage..most owners are very wealthy and shrewd business men...it is not about the $ it is about the Refs thinking they are more important then they really are..just like the MLB umps years ago.. they thought they were an important part of the game..they were wrong.

Arent most refs successful professionals. I dont think they are going to care to miss paychecks from the NFL if they are making 6 figures.

If I remember correctly, a handful of veteran MLB umpires lost their jobs when they overplayed their hand, or something along those lines. It was a really bad decision at the time by ex-MLB Umpires boss Richie Phillips and guys in his own union.

Not all refs are Lawyers. Don't NFL refs make about $100K? If a ref earns $100K in his regular day to day job, then yes, not getting his ref check affects him big time.

I thought they all had other jobs in addition to officiating NFL games. They've NEVER been full time NFL officials.

I'm not holding my breath that the regular officials will be back at work anytime soon. Many feel that the regulars will be working again as soon as next week, but I think the two sides appear to putting lines in the sand and might dig in for the long haul. I really believe the two sides are miles apart financially and we might have the replacement officials working these games for quite sometime to come.

You are correct shark I remember a handful of fat men crying poor after being froze out of a good job after overplaying their hand..NFL refs are no different ..Players important..refs are a dime a dozen.

I actually think that some new refs & new blood might be good for the NFL. The notion that there is only a very very small number of elite refs who are capable of reffing in the NFL is ridiculous. That notion is certainly true for players, but there are hundreds & hundreds of refs who can ref in the NFL as good as the regulars refs. No one will care in a couple of weeks.
