Just good enough to break your heart.

Sox get one more hit the rest of the game.

Desperation time for the Tigers. The Sox could really get a stranglehold on the division if they can come back tonight.

Desperation?

The Sox won't get another hit in this game.

You'd think the White Sox would realize that they are, in fact, in a division race and have a chance to attain a sizable lead tonight.

Someone should tell Peavy to not suck when he needs to be good.

They lost the game in that Youkilis at-bat. BUNTING IS DESTROYING THIS TEAM.

Robin is an idiot. No reason ever that Youk should be bunting.

Awful

Baseball tradition is so great, yet holds the game back in so many ways. You don't see NFL teams still running the T formation just because it was wildly successful in the early years. I feel like sometimes these guys bunt or try to play "small ball" because some vague "book" says that's the way it always has been done despite the fact you are GIVING UP OUTS, of which you only have 27...

Would've been nice for AJ to take a pitch and let Rios steal that base.

Thats a tough one. at this point in the season the difference between a 4 game lead and a 2 game lead is HUGE

You know it's a bad decision when even Rongey can't defend it.

Scherzer and Verlander up next. Good thing they got game 1 but Verlander has been shaky lately...

Verlander seems to alternate between unhittable and Will Ohman.

He's due to be Verlander again.

I thought he would turn into Mark "The Bird" Fidrych by now.

He is beast, no doubt, yet the Sox seem to be able to get to him from time to time.

He does engage in a lot of theatrics out there. and you'd definitely put Farmer in that Old School camp that hates showboaters.
For me his main offense is his pace. He can slow the game to a crawl.

Gavin Floyd toes the rubber tomorrow for the Pale Hose.

That's gotta scare Sox fans but maybe he will spin a good one...

Looks tough on paper vs Scherzer.

My friend who I go to a lot of games with is an older guy. I'm sure my whining after DeAza squared and when Youkilis put himself in the bad count during the eighth made him want to get the fuck away from me.

But he said something you touched on above: "That's the way the game is played." As if it is beyond questioning. I think the acceptance of this stylistic approach is even greater among old White Sox fans who grew up with Looie and Nellie. There seems to be a certain disdain for the home run.

Even Ventura continually mentions that he's "glad we scored without homers." Why? Why is that important? I wish I had a team that only got 810 hits all season and they were all home runs. I'd win a lot of games.

Gavin Floyd, I believe, is 7-2 lifetime vs. Detroit, and needless to say, White Sox fans better hope good Gavin shows up tonight. This team can't afford many more games like last night where Jake Peavy makes 1 mistake too many and he ends up on the losing end vs. Doug Fister.

RV doesn't think he'll shake up his lineup, but he might want to consider it. The SCORE/White Sox Radio Network's Chris Rongey mentioned a disturbing stat for Sox hitters over the last couple of weeks with RISP. That batting average...Only .193.

DeAndre explained regression to the mean to him.

The way pitchers have been throwing fastballs past Youkilis the last few weeks, i had no real problem with the decision.

This

Also, old Youk wouldn't be batting 2nd in front of Dewayne Wise.

It's Dewayne Wise, for fucks' sake! Why is he hitting 3rd!!!???

You can see that Ventura likes to alternate guys on either side of the plate. Rather than moving everyone else around, he prefers to plug in a replacement. The most egregious example being Olmedo batting in Alexei's spot in the two-hole. I don't see how anyone could have a problem with Wise the way he's been hitting. Of course, you keep expecting it to stop. Maybe it won't. All championship teams have a guy like that. Maybe Wise is this year's Bob "Hurricane" Hazle.

Phil Rogers with some Youk stats over the last two years in crunch time. NOT GOOD.

Having said that, he was a great pick up and it ain't hard to see that he is playing in a shit load of pain right now.
