Its called saracsm, dummy.

I was making fun of Nintendo's E3 presentation where they hyped up their rerelease of Arkham City like it was something special as opposed to what it really was, them releasing a year old game with a few tacked on gimicky control options and trying to make it sound like it was some amazing new game.

The official kits have been out for awhile. The quotes regarding how the Wii U is very similar to the PS3 and XBox 360 go back as far as then...and so recently as late last month.

The Wii U's capability is the worst kept secret in gaming. For comparison, look at the just released footage of Tekken for PS3 and XBox 360, and compare it to the released screenshots for Wii U's version.

There is little difference, except that the lighting looks a bit better in the PS3 version.

There probably won't be many differences in the initial software releases but as time passes the differences will be apparent. Nothing groundbreaking or anything but just by looking at the specs that have been released it is a more powerful system. Not by a light-year, but it will be more capable.

And, I agree, the Wii has been consigned to the junk box in many a basement. The system ran out of steam 2 years ago.

I'm thinking shakes was joking and taking a shot at the Wii U, but that's just me.

I can't disagree with this. But if Nintendo's game plan with the Wii U in 2016 is to finally compete with people replaying the Uncharted series for the fourth time on their PS3...well, that might not be smart.

I agree. You can't really play the "low cost" game if you aren't all that low cost. It worked for the Wii because of the motion control gimmick and such but now there are too many option and too many people with HDTV's and such.

If the WiiU turns out to be pretty good in the realm of graphics capability and it is actually supported by solid 3rd party software I think it will do quite well. Especially considering the price.

If not, well, this will be Nintendo's last home console.

I guarantee your one of the very few that are still using the Wii. I would guess that the only people still using the Wii are people who don't have an HDTV and/or don't have a 360/PS3.

To chime in on this, my nephews and niece used to play their Wii all the time.

Then they got PS3.

It is a rare day that I see them playing anything on the Wii. And when they do, it is the original Super Mario Bros. 3 using Virtual Wii or whatever that is called.

Let's see. I have a 73" Mitsu DLP HD Tv in the basement and a brand new Panasonic VT50. The Wii is a far better party gaming system, for multiplayer.

 I'm not from the 50's. Most board members would gladly trade for my setup. The Wii is an extremely great system for a lot of things. Those who disregard its success do so out of ignorance...

Not necessarily a bad thing. Sega's been pretty successful as a 3rd party developer, so Nintendo w/ it's greater franchises should be extremely successful.

A few thoughts:

I don't think this system bombs. There will be people who buy it simply because they loved the Wii so much. There will be others who buy it because they really love the franchises. Finally, there will be people who buy it simply because they have to have the latest console.

But even if this system bombs, I don't think it's Nintendo's last. Ever since the fifth generation, we've had at least three of the big players pushing consoles out, so unless someone steps in <cough> Apple </cough> with their own new console, I think Nintendo gets enough in sales to carry on.

Then you must have cataracts because anyone with normal vision would vomit after watching SD Wii on an HD tv.

It isn't that bad. It's far from perfect, but it's manageable.

Perhaps you're playing games for the "realism". I have yet to see a game that took full advantage of HD, so until I see such games, I will continue to let my PS3 be my blu-ray player and utilize the Wii. I only play NBA and NFL on the PS3 anyway.

What do you mean by this?

I have yet to see a game that has graphics that mirror reality. I have yet to play a sports sim that makes me feel like I'm controlling an actual game on ESPN, etc.

XBox Vista. Will take 20 mins. for a game to load. Then an additional 10 mins. for it to load whenever you press a button.

Oi.

A 2D platformer that can't be run at 1080p on Nintendo's "Next Gen" console?

Hopefully this simply stems from initial teething problems but the fact that they had to back off a previous claim has me worried.

Lots of rumors about major Wii U shortages this holiday season. It may be smart for everyone to pre-order this before the reviews come out.

I may be the only one, but I'm actually pretty excited about the Wii U, but not at the price it is selling for at launch.

I doubt I would be considered a fan boy. Xbox is better. I just like what Nintendo does too.

My roommate's getting a Wii-U, but I'm not sure why. We are taking advantage of the Wii arcade thing at the moment, actually. He's never played Secret of Mana so we're grinding through that, and I'm finishing up a replay of Chrono Trigger. Next up is probably FFVI, which I've never beaten and will consume many hours of my life.

SOLID.

Absolutely. I pulled that out for the Ps1 not too long ago, beat it, loved it again. Such a supreme piece of gaming. I just need to find a copy of Suikoden II and my life will be complete because marriage to the love of my life (my wife) didn't seem to do it but I'm certain Konami's RPG masterpiece will.

Ah, the perks of working from home.

Try Secret of Evermore. It's like Mana, except you play as a Boy & his dog in different eras.

Bad Port or Bad Hardware? We’re Already Hearing Complaints About Wii U Visuals.

As Nintendo's first high definition console, Wii U will join the neverending, nothing-really-proven debate between the PS3 and the Xbox 360 over which console's visuals for whatever multiplatform game are superior. Some people are convinced it's a bad port, others are convinced it proves inferior hardware.

It doesn't sound like Mass Effect 3 or Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge are the best candidates to show off the new console's graphical capabilities. 1Up, in its review of Mass Effect 3, said the game "seems a lot less visually stable," than the Xbox 360 version, with choppy frame rate, "rougher" animation and even worse audio in the game's spoken dialogue. (Jason Schreier, in his time with the game so far, hasn't noticed any hardware issues with the Mass Effect 3 visuals. Here's a video of him testing out the game's Wii U features.)

NeoGAF has almost unanimously judged this to be a lazy port courtesy of Electronic Arts, with some expected moaning and groaning about third party development on Nintendo hardware. There may be some question as to how well the Wii U's hardware can handle ports of something developed for another console.

1Up didn't seem to think it was a lazy job. "There was some actual thought put into this port, which is always nice to see," 1Up said in its review, although it was praising the integration of the GamePad and the unique details and features it brings to this game.

IGN says Ninja Gaiden 3 isn't going to win a beauty pageant, either. "Razor's Edge is arguably uglier than its cousins," its review says, citing "bland textures and a bad case of the 'jaggies.'" However, its framerate remains smooth. 1Up said Ninja Gaiden 3 can hang with either the 360 or PS3 "until too many things start happening at once." That reviewer noted some bad frameskip, but it wasn't predictable and its source wasn't easily identifiable.

We're not reviewing either title but we will be providing impressions, with video, of Ninja Gaiden 3 soon. And we'll keep our eyes peeled in our playthroughs. But it's not like this issue is going to be settled based reviews of launch-window ports.

Rumor has it that Sony has purchased the rights to Atari, and they're going to rerelease the 2600. Reviews are already in, and they're better than the Wii U's.

Kotaku says hold off on buying the Wii, not enough apps and games. Also, online features will need to be developed. They say the launch of the Wii U is better than the launch of the PS3 and XBox 360, but they couldn't bring themselves to say that the Wii U now is better than the PS3 or XBox 360 now. They said they are taking a wait and see approach.

They did like the Wii U Gamepad controller though.

edit: Also, ZombiU, the one game that looked pretty damn interesting, is getting bad reviews.

The best time to buy a Wii U will be after the Wii U2 comes out.
