We've gone through the Mike, Sam, Will stage. We moved on to the three technique era. Now we are on the watch the lines epoch of Bernstien superiority to you.

It really is remarkable. Pat Kirwan wrote a book with watching the lines in the title but Dan thinks he's dropping knowledge on the world with the way he watches the game.

Yeah the idea that fans dont watch the lines is ridiculous. Even dumb fans watch the lines.

I'll give him this. I did watch the lines and it always did lead back to the ball...because it was usually in Cutler's hand.

You could just as easily focus exclusively on a WR, RB or QB and tell in the same amount of time whether it will be a run or pass.

What does focusing on Stephen Paea tell me?

I predict a lot of Bowen-esque "2-deep shell" talk this year as the way to defend Brandon Marshall.

Exactly how stupid Americans are for making football the most popular sport.

Last nights game was every bit as boring as an average baseball game.

It goes to show how stupid we are as a country. The sports with the least amount of commercials and most action are the least popular. Hockey, Soccer. The sports that allow us to sit through bad car and beer commercials are the best. Brainwashing at it's finest.

Hank, I had the opportunity to go to a Bears preseason game this year courtesy of some free tickets. I had only ever been to two in my entire life and never to a college game. I contend that football is best viewed in the comfort of one's home. In any case, it is amazing how slow the game is and it really comes through when you see it in person. There are endless stoppages and tv time outs. The seconds between snaps even seem long because you do not have announcers explaining stuff from a replay. I told my wife I never realized how boring football actually is. I think this is why I like hockey more as I get older. I have always loved baseball because by nature it is a slow and subtle sport. Football seems like high activity when in fact it is mostly downtime.

True. Everybody knows to watch the line. Others have said it through the years. Goff got all chesty and told people that this was his unique idea a few days ago. Even though Bernstein is the one that taught him to do it.

How can you not watch the line? That's all they show.

You can watch the line or the QB. There is no point in focusing on the QB. You can see him in your peripheral vision release the ball.

I love football but it is terribly boring. Even watching on TV is a commercial fest. Score a TD, commercial, kickoff/touchback, commercial, run a play and have to challenge it, commercial. You could have a stretch where the players are active for 20 seconds and spend 10 minutes hearing Tim Allen brainwash the US to visit Michigan and buy Chevys.

If you could outlaw fantasy sports and gambling on the NFL it would probably be looked at as a niche sport.

I wonder if Dan is also the same guy who watches hockey and says "I can't see the puck!"

You're basing your opinion on a pre season game?

Last year it was the Wide 9 that he became an expert on.

I demand that the football analysis spotlight shine on "form tackling". It has taken a back seat for far too long.

Ah yes. Can't run a Cover-2 without an excellent three-technique.

Anyway, this year's is shaping up to be "stop demanding that the Bears blitz more/the Bears need to put more pressure on the quarterback."

You have to have some esoteric football language for it to qualify. Dan doesn't choose an area of focus unless he can use "will, sam, mike, three techinique, wide 9" etc. in order to lose 50% of his audience and amaze another 10%. When listeners catch up on the phrase he he moves on to the next term.
