I haven't seen a snap of Wisconsin this year... are they really THAT bad? ESPN Power rankings has them as second worst (ahead of Indiana).

Bad, Bad, Bad, and more bad. Their O-line stinks, they have no receivers that can create separation, every pass is a 5 yard pass, special teams sucked this weekend and their defense has already had a couple of injuries, but they are the bright spot. Other than that, everything is wonderful.

I feel bad for Montee Ball he should have jumped to the NFL last year when his stock was much higher.
They looked pathetic against Utah St. I watched the last quarter. They should feel fortunate to have

When is the last time you could say that Wisco didn't have an awesome offensive line? I'll buy the no WR's argument. And I think this year basically shows you what a special player Russell Wilson was/is. The guy is a midget, but he was legit talented. I can't remember the last time there was a QB like that in Madison.

Can't remember an offensive line this bad. Russell was so great, but even the year before with Scott Tolzien the line carried the team. Allowed Scott to throw 20 passes and complete like 18 of them every week. I think that's what they were hoping DOB could do.

They're not 11th-in-the-Big-Ten bad. But they certainly aren't good. I think Purdue is a clear favorite in the division right now.

Also, who would have thought that a quarterback who was benched on a 2-10 Maryland team might be bad? I know I'm flabbergasted.

Sad part is he is still better than the rest of the QBs on the roster. BB still isn't recruiting and developing QBs. Stave will be a project.

I think it's tough to pick nits with BB given the back-to-back Rose Bowls. But given that failure to develop QBs and the failure to capitalize on recruiting after the past two seasons, I wonder if we won't be talking about what might have been with Wisconsin. Feels like they could have been the next Ohio State and Michigan, but that window might be slipping.

It's hard to recruit QBs to Wisconsin because they play a pro style offense. Everyone is running some variation of the spread and the QBs get a lot of time and ability to run/throw the ball. Unless a QB is content to run the O from under center 90% of the time, they aren't going to Madison.

This has always been the case, but I was hoping Wilson would change the perception and show that top tier QBs can succeed (and make it to the NFL) despite being a run-heavy program.

I think it is more the perception of Wisconsin as a run first offense than the pro style offense.

Hawkeye Vince and Bucky Chris, I think you nailed it. We are spoiled with mobile and accurate passers at Northwestern, and I think the Spread has helped us attract these guys. They know we like to sling it around. Kain Colter, Trevor Siemian, Zach Oliver, and now Matt Alviti are probably the best stable of QB's ever to wear purple. Although none may play on Sunday because of their size (Russell Wilson may disprove this). But our blessing at QB is a curse at RB. RB's love them some Wisconsin offensive lines to run behind.

That was one year though.

I could go back to years of Brooks Bollinger, Scott Tolzein, Jim Sorgi films if I am recruiting against Bret to show what the offense really does and what they would do to the recruit.

Agreed though I would say NU has talented backs but the issue if that to truly run a spread you don't have road graders on the line. You have more agile lineman typically.

Not to hijack thread (I guess I am anyway), but this Venric Mark guy is a pretty special back. He is TINY, but he plays big. I haven't seen a guy that looks like he's getting tackled for a two yard loss, turn it into a 5 yard gain by bouncing outside since Tyrell Sutton. He also catches well out of the backfield. During the USC/Stanford game they actually had a graphic with his name on Heisman watch... that was stunning to say the least.

Not a great game today. Defense has some moments of awesomeness, but can't sustain it long enough. Stave (Sunshine) is a good young prospect, but he clearly isn't ready for prime time yet. Had a few good long TD passes, but even those weren't on the money. The hard work was done by Abbrederis.

The ST penalties were awful today. But the blocked PAT for a 2pt conversion was a treat.

I love the linebackers. So fun to watch... so solid.

Lot of my buddies are freaking out about losing Ball, but Gordon and White filled in very very nicely today. There was no dropoff. Doubt Ball plays next week since it was a concussion, but either way, I think Nebraska routes the Badgers.


And it was nice to see that maybe Oregon State is good, so it wasn't as bad of a loss as it felt like right after the game. We'll see.
