Just teed off about an hour ago. Should be an interesting tournament. Last group to tee off
this afternoon at about 1pm CST is Tiger and Rory.

I'm still up in the air about this whole FedEx Cup Playoff format. Mathmatically, anyone can win this week regardless of their previous performance.

I don't know exactly how the points work, bbut i would think that for anyone outside the top 10 to win, Rory would have to finish 29 or 30?

Points reset in this final stage. All the points are worth leading up to the Tour Championship is to punch your ticket to the event.

They did this because of the whole Vijay Singh debacle a few years back, when he had the Cup locked up because of points and didn't have to play the final event.

Isn't Vijay like 83 years old?

Yeah I don't know about the Fed Ex Cup thing either. To me it is just a big money grab. Sure it is a nice
title to have but doesn't mean anything like majors or WGC events not to mention some of the bigger
tournaments on tour like The Memorial. I am just hoping for some big names up there near the end
and some good golf. Should be a good sports weekend with some big college games, golf, and NFL on
Sunday.

Think about this as well:

Fred Couples is going to the Hall of Fame in 2013. He's got 12 PGA Tour victories and only one major. However, two of his victories were at the Players Championship. Does this mean that if a player manages a few wins during his career and one major he's automatically HoF material?

What about the WGC events and FedEx Cup Playoffs that weren't around 15 years ago? Bill Haas - last year's FXC winner - has a couple wins on his resume and won a playoff format amidst the best players in the world. If he wins a major, is he automatically a lock for the Hall?

I think all of these newer formats and events have lessened the importance and impact of the Majors.

If they reset, why were the announcers making such a big deal about the top 5 controlling their own destiny?

Personally, i like the playoffs because it gives us 3 weeks of really good fields in a time of the year that used to suck.

There are only 10 current PGA players that have more than 10 victories on tour. I would say the new mark to make
the hall is probably 12 to 15 wins believe it or not. The fields the last 10 - 15 years have become so much more
balanced in men's golf. Paddy Harrington only has 5 PGA Tour victories but 3 majors. Do you keep him out of the hall?

Right, but Harrington has other wins outside of the TOUR, just as many other players have.

It all boils down to what Hall voters want to use as the standard. If it is overall wins, then raise the bar. If it is major victories, then the Hall needs to open its doors to a lot more golfers. If it is "fame", then that is a different subject entirely.

Yes it is all very subjective. I only see a handful of guys out there right now that deserve that kind of honor and are
locks. Woods, Mickelson, Els, Singh and maybe Davis Love III

As do I. I put down a wager on Kuchar at 40-1 to win.

He was interviewed on Feherty's show, and he said he quit. He has always been open about everything, including drinking, gambling, and doing drugs. I don't see why he would start lying now.

I don't know how anyone could bad mouth the FedEx Cup. How can anyone say that watching exciting competitive golf for an entire month of September is somehow a bad thing????

I've watched every day of the playoffs and its been awesome. Enjoyed every minute of it. Love watching Tiger and Rory play together, how can anyone who loves golf not?

Tiger looked great today, but how bout the job by Mickelson? Guy hits 2 fairways all day and still hits 16GIR. That's unbelievable. And it wasn't like he was just missing the fairways, everytime they showed him he was 150+ out and under a tree, on top of woodchips! Simply amazing display of scrambling.

Because the FedEx Cup format is still flawed. Look at what happened to Jim Furyk two years ago. The guy doesn't even compete in the first stage of the playoffs because he doesn't know how to set an alarm clock yet is allowed to play in the next event and eventually win the whole damn thing. That doesn't make any sense to me, especially if the PGA Tour wants to model its postseason after other major sports.

In the end, i don't care who actually wins. I just like the month of tournaments with top fields.

Also, i would rather have the weighted system that helps assure that the top players for the year make it to the end. Even if that means guys can skip an event.

100% agree!

If there was no FedEx Cup the season would end after the PGA Championship. As it is now, we have great tournaments with top players for an entire extra month! The tournaments have been great, the golf has been amazing. I don't really give a shit if the system is flawed in someway according to some, the great golf easily outweighs any complaints with the format.

Ok, fair enough. But let me ask you this:

Why has it been great golf?

Have you seen the amazing shots that have been made week in week out? Guys holing out chips left and right. For the most part, all the tournaments have been close right down to the wire. Watching guys jockey to make the cut for the next week has been dramatic. Seeing Rory win 3 out of 4 has been a thing of beauty to watch. And even with all that success just about every time he's paired up with Tiger, Tiger rises to the occassion and outplays him. I really enjoy watching the friendship between Tiger and Rory on the course. Love watching the short game play of Snedeker. Watching Phil scramble. Seeing guys like Garrigus come out of nowhere to challenge the big boys.

Its just been phenomenal golf in my opinion and I have loved every minute of it. Got home from work and watched all 5 hours of coverage yesterday, can't wait to do it again tonight.

Right; it's been great golf because the biggest names are playing well at the same time. I agree with you. It has been awesome to watch.

But what happens when the current point system prohibits Tiger, or Rory, or Phil from playing in these events? They could have played great golf all season long, but because of how the points are awarded suddenly Tiger or Rory doesn't "make the cut" to be entered into the next stage.

Suddenly, all of that great golf you've been enjoying is lost because of a point system.

That is where the system is flawed.
