Michigan. Not good. 31-7 Bama at half.

I think Michigan wil still be good because they won't face any team like Bama in the Big Ten.

Two weeks in and 3 of the 5 ranked teams already have a loss and 1 other is on probation.

THis may not be much of a statement after week 2, but whoever wins the conference, it could get ugly in the Rose Bowl if they have to play Oregon or USC.

Indiana is 2-0. So not only are they going to finish basketball season undefeated but also football. 8)

Did I read correctly that Illinois is only a 3 point favorite at home vs. Louisiana Tech????

Wow, that tells you all you need to know about the suckage of the big 10 this year.

I bet NIU would hammer LA Tech by 3.5

The oddsmakers are overvaluing La. Tech's MAC-style play of winning games by scores of 85-81.

They've beaten Houston and Rice - two traditionally ok teams andaveraging over 600 yards of offense per game. They are certainly no Charleston Southern.

They're also giving up 585 yards and 43 points per game.

I don't think Illinois is going to be world-beaters this year. But, if I had to rely on the offense or the defense to win a game, I would definitely choose the defense. The ASU game is more the exception than the rule. I think the defense should be able to make enough plays to win this game with some ease. I think it should be something like 38-20-ish.

Did Wisconsin just bench Montee Ball?

And now they are going with the walk-on QB? They really are mixing it up.

This might be the worst half of Iowa football I have seen since the Ray Nagel days.

This is shaping up as an epic bad year for the Big 10. Iowa fans might start wearing bags on their heads after that loss. There might be a bunch of other Big 10 fans joining them as the bad losses pile up. At least Nebraska still can beat its rent-a-victims.

I'm not worried. CMU would finish at least 8-0 in the Big Ten. AT LEAST.

Maybe a down year for the conference, but the Cats look pretty good this year. Not saying else e beat anyone of consequence, but not unreasonable to see them 7-0 heading into Nebraska game at Ryan Field.

Yes they have looked good against bad and mediocre teams. I went to the game last week and was impressed with their energy, and even their D at times. And they had better rack up the wins against bad teams because I would suggest the probability is high they will lose their QB to injury at some point...as they seemingly do every year. There may not be another team in America that exposes their QB to open field hits as much as NU does. They seemingly are not taught to slide and protect themselves, beause they run so much and slide so little. For a team that is just 1 or 2 deep at that position, you would think the coaching staff would run an offense designed to protect their most impotant position, not expose him so much. So yes MUD...enjoy it! 7-0 would be great fun for Cats fans.

I'm going to the game next Saturday and PSU is going to beat us. Then, Dan Bernstein is going to hate me.

And then slam the door in my face.

No kidding. I got home in time from coaching softball (where we got spanked) to watch them flub the onsides and then give them 15 yards on the very next play.

I hear you, Coast, but there's a lot of people out there that said we had the second toughest schedule of any Big Ten team. maybe that Makes us the tallest midget. But for a school/program like Northwestern, I'll take what I can get. ;)

I also agree on the QB thing, but happy to say we have 3 great QBs and probably our highest rated guy ever at QB joining the team next year. We are pretty deep at QB and WR position. We are hurting at DB and DL in terms of depth.

So Cats aren't ranked (26th I suppose in "also receiving votes"). Frankly, I got no problem with this. All 4 of our opponents have not won against a FCS opponent. In short, I guess I agree with Coast's assessment. Frankly, if we beat Indiana next week, I'm still not sure that gets us in the top 25.

I see ND is opting out of yearly rivalry with Michigan. Last consistent tilt will be in 2014. They
do have a home and home scheduled vs. Northwestern later in the decade though. The series
with Michigan hasn't been as good the last 5-7 years but I will still be sorry to see it go.
