You may have heard the crowd in Patriots/Ravens chanting "BULL----!" after Baltimore was called for a head-scratching illegal contact penalty with under 3:00 left to go in the game, and was heard all over the place on NBC. The FCC will NOT fine NBC Sports as a result of that chant.

This is all a psychological experiment on group think.

What are your thoughts on Jim Harbaugh throwing out two challenge flags when he had no timeouts... and getting away with it? You think that happens if it's an established ref/umpire?

There is no doubt in my mind Harbaugh knew exactly what he was getting away with.

Multiple coaches are taking advantage of these refs.

I agree the players/coaches are responsible for their actions.

But the article did a good job illustrating how much the refs are effecting games, and how big a problem it is. So Kyle Shanahan deserved a 15 yard penalty because if he didn't do that the game would have been prematurely over. And then they just add 5 yards to it because they are woefully undertrained. The player safety thing is being overblown, but wins and losses effect these guys careers. I can't blame them for being pissed off that the refs are so bad that the announcers are easily identifying multiple mistakes throughout every game. You can't suspend Belichick if you're Goodell. You're hurting the integrity of the game much more than him grabbing a ref to try to get an explanation.

Just in case my take isn't clear, these fucking replacement refs suck ass. They are 100% incapable of doing this job anywhere close to acceptably.

Also, while we're here, just a quick reminder that the ref's aren't on strike ... the owners locked them out because they didn't want to work under the current contract (not just some future, undefined contract).

This whole situation is preposterous, and ultimately lays at the feet of Admiral Asshat Goodell.

That doesn't relieve, however, the necessity of severely punishing Hoodie McGrabbington for his stupidity that goes well beyond what any ref has done (because his actions could impact future games, whereas the refs only affect the game they're a part of in that moment).

JORR - you are probably the most correct in this .... i.e., it was just a couple years ago or so when the great Hocculi (sp?) was completely roasted for dicking-up a call or two .... having said that, I don't think any coach would've had the audacity to grab at his very tight - tight like a tiger - jersey demanding fealty and answer for his mistakes.

I agree. I don't watch a whole lot of NFL football but from what I've seen, it seems to me the worst thing about these refs- and the biggest difference between them and the "real" ones- is in their tentativeness in making calls.

The real problem with these replacement refs, especially in prime time national TV games like last Monday's Broncos/Falcons' game in Atlanta & last night's Patriots/Ravens' game in Baltimore is this in my opinion. That issue is control, or lack thereof. They're allowing stuff that should get players actually suspended if the real refs were working these games. I feel like I'm watching "WWE Monday Night Raw" instead of "Sunday Night Football" & "Monday Night Football".

I get the lack on control point, but I have not felt like I was watching the WWF for even a second this this NFL season.
