If Stone really leaves the booth because of Hawk, it really is time for Jerry to step in and bump Hawk to the President of broadcasting

On the show today, Terry referred to Hawk as "a beloved figure in Chicago." Really, dude? Come on. Almost all Cubs fans can't stand the guy, and many Sox fans can't either, to the extent that some ran a website called Heave The Hawk. The only people who really love the guy are those who like the "crusty old baseball man" dynamic on telecasts, and those whose siege mentality inherent to all White Sox fandom is so deep that they have to purport to love him just to fend off the Cub fans. Nonetheless, when Hawk does retire, either by choice or by death, I fully expect Dan and Terry to mourn him like an uncle, all the while sharing stories of how while "some in this town" hated Hawk, he was actually A Really Good Guy, while everyone's beloved Ron Santo was "just, ah, in my world, a human piece of crap. HEY HEEEEY!!!"

Singleton did radio, while Hawk does television. Being as obsessed as you are with the Sox, I am surprised you didn't know this.

DJ & Farmio actually has grown into a pretty good call.

I would LOOOOVE to see either Hawk N Wimpy back again or Framer with Hawk, though.

I would also LOOOVE to hear the stories floating around out there about how and why Farmer doesn't get along with Hawk.

Ever hear Dj do a game on FOX national? Actually really good....so u have to wonder why is his broadcast of Farmio and him so bad?

Also, to say Farmio and DJ have grown at all is just ridiculous. I have called it a 9 inning first bad date between 2 who have nothing in common. SPmack made a great call on 2 guys who just met each other doing a game together.

The only redeeming part is listening for an inning at the uncomfortable awkwardness that comes after every 5th statement, that can only be lessened with a 'did you ever _______ while playing " question.

Farmer's lack of knowledge of anything past 1985 is only surpassed by his ability to tell you what street every MLB lives on in the LA/SD area.

Of course we all know the terrible broadcasting has zero effect on attendance numbers, because so many Sox fans have saod so, so if thats the case, then why not change it? Are you really going to be losing fans if these guys are axed?

Huff...long time New Trier guy, but just a guy trying to cash a paycheck and not say anything bad.

Yes, this organization needs a Len and Bob....bad! Don't need to always kiss ass, but also dont spend 80% of a broadcast bitching about the 121 conspiracy theories out to get the Sox. Goes for Radio and TV

I have agreed with you before on this point and I'll continue to agree.

Something has to be said about the fact that DJ/Singleton can leave their respective "local" broadcasts with local legends as partners and actually sound pretty good. But when they return to the nest they sound like it's their first time ever behind a mic.

I remember hearing Dj do a game of the week on FOX and didnt know who it was for a few innings. Was shocked to find out it was him.

Then hearing Singleton doing ESPN shows and he is just smooth.

Even Rongey, who is pretty smooth, gets thrown off while trying to talk with Farmer.

Does having bad broadcast teams keep fans from your park? probably not, but does having good teams that make things sound light hearted and always a good time help make going to a game sound like something they want to do...yes.

WEGNER! You have got to be bleeeping me!

What an unholy load of bullshit. This is exactly what people mean when they refer to WSOX. These two mooks do whole segments mocking Hawk's unprofessionalism, but when it's nut-cutting time they go to great pains to make sure we know it's all a gag and Hawk is a Chicago institution and we should all love him like a goofy uncle. It's exactly the same as Dan bitching about giving up outs on the basepaths and then screaming at every caller who dared to question Ozzie.

Also, Steve Stone is just the absolute worst and the world would be a much better place if he left broadcasting entirely.

Hawk makes a game miserable to listen to if you are not a Sox fan. I watched plenty of the game today on Fox and it was just another game between 2 teams. This is not the case when I watch and Hawk is doing the game. It takes him about 2/3 of an inning to hit a nerve and then its off.

This.

There is something to be said for broadcasting chemistry. Paciorek and Harrelson like working together and it translates to their work on the broadcast. That said, i think if there were a change to be made, replacing harrelson would make more sense. Stone is outstanding, while Harrelson is a decidedly less capable broadcaster. He's a charachter and colorful personality, but the bitching about umpires, the silence when games go wrong and all....got old a long time ago.

I thought there was a distinguishably better quality of broadcasts with Paciorek this year. He has a little of the Hawk folksiness but he is full of baseball knowledge and unlike Stone, he doesn't treat it like he is giving out the knowledge form on high.

Stone probably going after Mark Grace's job with D-Backs. He lives there and obviously,

I see him giving it up and either doing a website thing like Florio, he could easily take over hardballtalk or maybe he becomes an espn baseball guy.

I can't see him fading away from the spotlight with the Dbacks gig.

Exactly. Stone's snobbiness just isn't compatible with the South Side.

Len and Bob could call any teams' game and it would be enjoyable, informative and entertaining for the entire audience.

Shit, at least we sniffed at something nice this year, whereas all you guys have done is make the sequel to 'Field of Reams'.

So we're restoring to the Cubs shots. I thought real Sox fans don't care at all about the Cubs... until the Sox choke and they've got NOTHING else to cling to except comparing themselves to that other team, which incidently in in the first year of a complete rebuild with a stated expectation at the beginning of the year of not winning shit, whereas the Sox spent something like 116 days in first, and the fans on the board started a 2012 champs thread... and they choked it all away in the last two weeks. Sad that you've sunk to this level, Q. I feel bad for you. I know how it feels, I've been there in 2004. I know it sucks.
