I think, and this isn't scientific, but with the roof open Soriano would have gone 3 for 3 with a walk, a grand slam, 2 stolen bases, and a double. When you take into account the Canadian exchange rate, and the open roof, Soriano would be about 1/19 stronger than he normally is. Of course this isn't official, its just using reasonable thought processes and reasonable outcomes using unreasonable examples to suggest, unreasonably, that Soriano is better than Dunn.

They mean nothing!

Adam The Oaf is worthless! I bet he K's another 10 times this week while waddling around the field. Why bother to sign The Oaf when you could have gotten a real player like Jeff Baker or Mark DeRosa?

Thus far, he's had the biggest 2 hits for the Sox this season.

223, if I remember correctly, is the all time single season strikeout record.
I think Dunn as of this posting is at 219.

So you're saying it may be about tie for another mysterious "oblique strain"?

You're not saying the Sox would intentionally manipulate the player's time in order to avoid embarrassing statistics... are you?

At least his strikeout total being higher than his batting average will not seem so shocking, with the strikeout total being so high....Will the late season performance level result in Dunn reaquiring the nickname swamp donkey??

He could hit 3 or 4 HRs today and screw Miggy out of the triple crown.

Its not very likely, but certainly possible for a slugger of his ilk to have a mutli HR game like that.

Dunn is such a strange guy I don't really know what to make of him and I don't believe advanced statistics really give you a good picture of how he effects a lineup. Obviously 40 home runs and 100 walks is good. But the low batting average and all the strikeouts certainly aren't a positive for a team.

I know you've expressed the idea that a strikeout is the same as every other out, but that isn't exactly true. It's a better out than a double play ball, but it's not as good as a deep fly with a man on second or third.

I don't think it's a bad idea to attempt to move Dunn. You might not have to eat any salary either. The thing is, if you have Dunn hitting in the middle of your lineup, you're going to have a certain type of offense. And if that's the case, I think your manager just has to accept that and go with it. I don't see that as being the case with the Sox this season.

Adam Dunn named American League Comeback Player of the Year by the Sporting News
Chicago White Sox first baseman/designated hitter Adam Dunn has been named The Sporting News American League Comeback Player of the Year.

Dunn, 32, batted .204 (110-539) with 41 home runs, 96 RBI, 105 walks and 87 runs scored in 151 games with the White Sox in 2012. He increased his totals in every category from 2011, when he hit .159 (66-415) with 11 homers, 42 RBI, 36 runs scored and 75 walks in 122 games.

The 6-foot-6, 285-pound Dunn led the major leagues in walks this season and ranked among the American League leaders in pitches per plate appearance (1st, 4.43), home run ratio (3rd, 13.15), home runs (5th) and RBI ratio (7th, 5.61). His 41 homers tied for sixth-most in White Sox history and were the second-highest total by a Sox left-hander behind Jim Thome’s 42 in 1996.

“We had a number of guys mentioned throughout the season as candidates for this award, which is gratifying for us as a coaching staff,” said White Sox Manager Robin Ventura. “Adam is one of the best clubhouse guys I have been around, and it’s nice to see that his hard work paid off. He is deserving of the honor.”

Dunn was named to his second career All-Star Team (2002 with Cincinnati), recorded his 1,000th career RBI on August 13 at Toronto and hit his 400th career home run on August 18 at Kansas City. Eighteen of his 41 home runs either tied the game or gave the Sox the lead, and he hit a career-high 15 off left-handers (none in 2011).

Since its inception in 1965, Dunn is the fifth White Sox player to be named AL Comeback Player of the Year by The Sporting News, joining Thome (2006), Paul Konerko (2004), Frank Thomas (2000) and Bo Jackson (1993).
