I'm still trying to figure out a reason to go on Twitter. I'd like a reason but every insight into its workings looks like something created by a coporate partnering of Paris Hilton and satan

Twitter was great during the lockout. Twitter is great during free agency periods. Twitter is great for injury news. Twitter is pretty great for everything really as it is FIRST to report anything and everything.

It also holds sini in check.

It also is the first to misreport just about everything and throw up its hands and claim "its only Twitter". Twitter breaking news is just slightly more reliable than "my cousin knows a guy who knows a guy who knows the GM".

Not true. If you're reading something from the usuals, like Chris Mortensen, Schefter, Buster Olney, etc, and they post it, it's believable. If you're reading something from Joe in Bridgeport, then that's on you for believing it.

I have my sources.

I probably will break Twitter Monday since the 3 topics I tweet about the most and with the most people are Bones, Castle and the Bears. With Bones and Castle both on during the Bears game Monday I will break Twitter.

My favorite twitter story is March 31st, 2011.

As I mentioned earlier I tweet a lot about Bones. I also and this will be a shock to you all tweet a lot about the Cubs.

Well on March 31st it was the day before opening day and Emily Deschanel (lead actress on Bones) pregnancy was announced.

So the Bones fans were talking about that and Cub fans were talking about opening day.

By the time I got through them all I started to mix things up and I thought Ryan Dempster was pregnant and Emily was the Cubs opening day starter.

The way Ryan pitched that day maybe he was pregnant or maybe Emily would have done better!

The other funny thing is I tweet sometimes about Boers and Bernstein and abbreviate it to B&B. Well Bones two main characters are also called B&B. I have to be careful to make sure people understand which B&B I am talking about!

There's also times where I go out of my way to avoid it. Isn't it the NBA or NFL draft (or both) where Twitter is minutes ahead of the actual announcement on the tube? That ruins the TV watching for me.

Yeah, you have to avoid it if you're not watching a game in real time.....

I don't get taping a game to watch it later and avoiding hearing the score.

When the Bears were in the NFC title game in 2007 a coworker didn't want to know the score and didn't have a radio with him ( we worked in a 24/7 place). Another coworker was listening and promised not to give anything away. (He was off at halftime so would see the rest of the game). Then she had to reassure him not to garner anything from her not reacting by cheering or booing or anything because she was respecting his wishes nott o know what was going on.

nothing holds me in check, spkamp, nothing! i can raise up an army of twitter accounts if needed... it's flexible like that, until all of this mass-media supersaturation makes it inherently more fascist and thusly slanted towards our media masters/overlords/gatekeepers as time goes on.

IN THE CHICAGO SPORTS LEXICON:

i've been blocked by david kaplan a few times for various reasons, my favorite one being calling him a smarmy shaved-head-alien-looking kiss-the-ring yuppie douchebag asshole. once because i said i LOL'd at his goatee, which he told me his wife liked and "thanks for watching" (which meant plop over to another account, link him to my thorough analysis of his twitter argument tactics, which earned me my first block, tell him to fuck off and, of course, thank him for reading as the inevitable block will be the confirmation that the message has been delivered."

and once, even prefaced as being as respectful as i can be, i told david haugh that i thought he was a dipshit and i got blocked.

we don't even trudge into the goff stuff because he's legendary at this point, though most notably when i said that i thought he should be above actively trying to foster an ALS through RTs on twitter. most unnotably for that one parody account i made.

Why I don't get is how some of you follow like 500+ users. Seems insane to me. There's people who tweet like every 10 minutes. I don't see how you can read all that nonsense.

Yeah I'm up to 430, and I fully understand what you mean. I don't mind seeing tweets from all of the reporters and other sports people, but I follow some family and friends that I could do without. I don't need to see you retweeting everyone that says Good Morning back to you. Before I follow anyone now, I check to see how many tweets they have. If they are over 5000, I tend to not follow them.

One guy, State St Sports, follows like over 20000 people...there is no way I could do that.

Should I delete 653 of my tweets to get back under 5,000?

I'd love to follow SHARK, but he sends out too many tweets. It's understandable though for a man of his wisdom. But I can't do it. I like to keep my box fairly clean.

I stomached SHARK for a couple weeks. You're right...way too tweety. Had to unfollow.
