I spoke with Al Gore and when the Cubs choked in 1969 there was no joy by White Sox fans on internet message boards.

Also in 1969 the Seattle Pilots only had 5,473 fans at their final home game so stop thinking crowds at the Cell of 18k are shocking.

2012 Theo Epstein reminds me a lot of 2008 Obama, with his flashy promises of change.

I love the opinion change on Epstein since he joined the Cubs

I know he only wins the World series in 20% of his seasons, and that he was the only GM to ever have steroid users on his team. But take it easy on him. Its been 5 years since he won a title.

And Sox fans, just wear this choke. Dont worry about what the Cubs are doing. The Cubs have nothing to do with this massive failure.

Good stuff.

Wish it worked that way.

But I am sure the 100 loss season is still worse

-10Here's a riddle. How many more post season games did the 2012 sod play than the cubs? Assrite zero. At least we were able to enjoy the fact that the season meant nothing. Not like the cub fired a dickhead manager that spent most of his time responding to his dickhead kids attacking management on twitter. If only ozzie and buehrle with his 10-10 record by lasting all the way throughthe fifth inning were here. They would have beern done long ago like the last couple years. Enjoy the dog collar sox fans.

Report the entire story...like how he stepped into another person's team for his first world series...how he took advantage of budgetary/drafting inefficiencies that are no longer present in baseball to bulk up his farm system...how he got out of town one step ahead of the sheriff with this years team...how his free agent acquisitions of the past few years have started to look Hendryesque. There is certainly sufficient evidence to think that blind faith in Epstein is not warranted.

If the Sox got rid of all their high priced talent at the end of the year, they would be further along in a rebuild than the Cubs. If Theo had a draft of Sale and Reed you would fashion a laurel for him from the outfield ivy.

Enjoy another year ticked off your life with a sub .500 record and the assurance that next year will be yet another. Warm yourself over the winter to thoughts of Jackson and Vitters breaking out into everyday MLB players.

I will look back on this Sox year happy with good baseball, youth development and meaningful games until the last week of the season, though ultimately disappointed in the outcome.

The great thing about previous experience, is the wisdom it provides one when making future decisions. Epstein and Hoyer are using a completely different business model with the Cubs than they used in Boston. The model used today is much more similar to that employed by the Rays than the Red Sox. It's all about building through the draft. Identifying exceptional talent, developing it and then bringing it to the major leagues. The approach is the right one and I believe it will work very well. Free agency will be a tool that will be utilized when needed, but no longer the means by which the team builds through so commonly. Top end free agents will only be sought when the team is close to contending and they have nobody in the minors at that position of need that will be ready to fill that position anytime soon. In a couple years, they should reach the point where it all comes together and then enjoy sustained success. The White Sox, on the other hand have little minor leage talent ready to take over at all the positions of need they will have after losing some key players this off-season, yet are unlikely to want to spend a great deal either, when their fan base did such a lousy job of supporting a team that led their division most of the season, before fading. I suspect that while good times are ahead in a couple years for the Cubs, leaner times lay ahead for the South siders.

 What?

They are using a completely new model, but yet can look back at their experience and somehow that will help them using an entirely new system now? How is that possible?

The White Sox are said to have no talent in the minors, yet this year they had young arms in the rotation and the bullpen all season and seemed to contend just. That is just a myth that you seem to take as written law, steve. The Sox have talent in the minors.

They are forced to use a different business model because drafting and foreign acquistion rules have changed. Theo made a name for himself in Boston by scooping up recognized talent in the draft that fell to him because it was unsignable by any but the wealthiest teams. That cannot be done anymore...of course, with your blessing, talent won't have to fall to him because the Cubs will be picking at the top for years to come.

Anyway, if the Cubs had, Sale, Quintana, Jones, Reed, Santiago, Viciedo and De Aza all under club control for the next 3+ years, you would be creaming your pants about the future. They have nowhere near that low cost talent and you still sit their in your pew giving out an "Amen!" every time Epstien calls for it.

Nobody on that list has the panache and star quality of a Brett Jackson or Josh Vitters to be certain.
