When you look at the $700,000,000 wasted on the Sox Player Payroll since 2006 that produced ONE post season victory you just laugh at the way they are operated.

Buehrle is almost a star, not that he's really recent either. Then again, developing from a 38th rounder to where he got is impressive.
Pitching for the Sox in 2011 is not recent?

Konerko became a star while with the Sox, though he came up with the Dodgers and Reds.
Magglio Ordonez
Carlos Lee
Chris Sale appears to be headed in that direction

Gio Gonzalez

Just meant his "development" wasn't that recent.

1. Courtney Hawkins OF (19) 2012 1st round draft pick: Hawkins hit .284/.324/.480 between rookie ball, Low A and High A. He cranked out 8 home runs and stole 11 bases in 59 games while playing a very good centerfield though his long term projection is in rightfield. He has to improve his pitch recognition and shorten his swing and if he does the skies the limit for this uber talented young outfielder. Hawkins will probably start next season at Low A.

2. Trayce Thompson OF (21) 2009 2nd round pick: Thompson hit .253/.328/.482 between High A, Double A and Triple A. He slugged 25 home runs, 31 doubles, 9 triples and drove in 96. He also had 21 stolen bases in 24 attempts while playing an excellent centerfield with a plus throwing arm. Thomson has to work on making consistent contact (166 K's) as his strikeout rate is much too high. Thompson will probably start next season at Double A.

3. Carlos Sanchez 2B/SS (20) Free agent 2009 : Sanchez hit .323/.378/.403 between High A, Double A, and Triple A. Sanchez hit 25 doubles, 7 triples and stole 26 bases. Sanchez is a gold glove caliber defender with excellent range, soft hands and a plus throwing arm. Sanchez has a short quick line drive swing and should hit for a high average though he needs to add strength (1 HR) and improve his base running (CS 15 times). Sanchez will contend for a spot on the major league roster next season.

Sox should spend all off season eating at Polish all-you-can-eat places if they want to compete with Detroit.

4. Simon Castro RHP (24) Acquired in Carlos Quentin trade: Castro was 7-5 3.70 ERA in 21 starts between Double A and Triple A. In 117 innings he gave up 121 hits walked 27 (1.29 WHIP) and struck out 88. Castro features a mid 90's moving fastball, a wipeout slider and a decent changeup. Castro missed time with a back strain but when healthy a mechanical change helped him regain the form that made him a top prospect with the Padres. Castro will contend for a rotation spot next season.

5. Keenyn Walker OF (22) 2011 1st round draft pick : Walker hit .267/.378/.379 between Low A and High A. In 111 games the switch hitting Walker scored 84 runs, hit 22 doubles, 6 triples and stole 56 bases in 71 attempts. Walker gets excellent reads and takes direct routes to the ball in centerfield with an average at best throwing arm. Strikeouts are an issue with Walker (143) and he needs to flatten out his swing to make more consistent contact. Walker will probably begin next season at High A.

6. Erik Johnson RHP (22) 2011 2nd round draft pick: Johnson was 6-5 2.58 ERA in 17 starts between Low A and High A. In 92.1 innings he gave up 82 hits walked 29 (1.20 WHIP) and struck out 87. Johnson's season started late due to a tired shoulder and when healthy he showed vastly improved command of all his pitches and a much improved changeup to go with his plus fastball and slider. Johnson projects as a middle of the rotation starter and will probably begin next season at Double A.

7. Scott Snodgress LHP (23) 2011 5th round draft pick : Snodgress was 7-3 3.00 ERA in 27 starts between Low A and High A. In 141 inning he gave up 112 hits walked 64 (1.24 WHIP) and struck out 128. A reliever in college the funky left-hander has made a nice transition to starter in pro ball. Snodgress still has to improve the command of his low to mid 90's fastball to go with his plus curveball and average changeup. Snodgress projects as a middle of the rotation starter and will probably begin next season at Double A

Going to have to re-write the top 10 prospect list.
