*sigh*

"If I wake up tomorrow and I need the wrist surgery I'll let you guys know," Deng joked. "I didn't want to have surgery and miss a lot of games. I'm at a point of my career I want to play in every game. I had a hard time to make that decision to have the surgery and miss that time."

I saw this. You know it will flare up again at some point. But this year, who cares?

I just don't understand his reasoning, especially from a career-outlook perspective. So he basically wants to keep playing on a bad wrist until he can't play any more?

Sad to say, but I can see him becoming a oft-injured has been on the Milwaukee Bucks bench soon enough.

If I'm the Bulls, I would have told him immediately after the olympics that he was having the surgery, and he wouldn't step on the floor until he has the procedure done, and he is fully healed. He's playing for his next contract, so I'm pretty sure he would have went through with it, instead of killing his career value by sulking away on the bench.

In my opinion, one of two possible explanations exist:

1) Deng knows that the Bulls are going to be miserable most of the year, which confirms that Rose won't be back anytime soon (which we probably already knew). He therefore feels that he needs to contribute as much as he can this season and doesn't want to have surgery offset that belief.

2) He's hoping to get traded by the deadline and wants to rack as many minutes/points as possible, secure a new deal, and somehow work in the surgery after the new contract is signed. I'm not suggesting Deng is trying to pull a fast one on a new team, he just wants the deal in place first.

Either way, the decision is a poor one.

I was under the impression that Luol Deng was going to undergone wrist surgery right after the Summer Olympics and miss the first 2 months of the upcoming season. I wonder if the injury healed in much the same way Kobe Bryant's did with the Lakers...
