I constantly hear advertisements on the radio from people telling me they have the lock of the week, and if you call, you will be given it for free.

I have never called this, because it is obviously a scam. However, I was wondering how the scheme actually works. Does anybody know?

How it works:

You have to sign up for a "subscription". You will get the "free" pick, when you buy 3 or 4 picks. A purchase of 3 or 4, with tonight's pick free. Don't think you can make that phone call and get tonight's pick without whipping out that credit/debit card.

Another trick they do, is give out one team to half the callers, and the other team to the other half. Half of the people are still believers, no matter the outcome. Those people call back next week, and the same 50/50 split is utilized. At this point, 25% of the callers think you know something, so they sign up.
