Earnhardt Jr. Has Concussion, out 2 Races

CONCORD, N.C. October 11, 2012 (AP)

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has a concussion and will sit out the next two Sprint Cup races at Charlotte and Kansas.

The injury ends NASCAR's most popular driver's championship chances this season.

Hendrick Motorsports says Earnhardt Jr. was diagnosed Wednesday afternoon. He sustained the concussion in the 25-car pileup on the last lap of Sunday's race at Talladega.

Regan Smith will replace Earnhardt Jr. in the No. 88 Chevrolet in the next two events.

Yikes - two concussions in just over a month? I'm thinking it's gonna be longer than two races that he's out.
....or you could believe the conspiracy theory that Jr. is actually being "suspended" for two races for his comments toward NASCAR after the Talladega race/crash. :twisted:

Not really, that is separate. He is replacing Kurt Busch in the #51 because Busch bolted for the #78 for the rest of the year.

It's Regan Smith that is the beneficiary of Jr's concussions.

No. That's not what happened. The 78-51 driver swap already happened earlier in the week. I picked Regan Smith in the contest driving the #51 car this week..

If I were Hendrick, I wouldn't let him race the rest of the year. I am going to go out on a limb and say that driving 200mph after having 2 very recent concussions is probably not a good thing.

Rusty Wallace also said on ESPN yesterday that Junior could be out for the year.
