Exactly. Mike's my drunk uncle. Mostly inebriated and meandering, but every once in awhile makes cogent points and can be surprisingly funny, both intentionally and unintentionally. Fuck, it's better than the head coach of NIU.

I'm convinced it's a bit, but they swear it's not. He just seems to convienently be at the same level of intoxication every time he calls.

well i'm on the podcast now searching the 5pm hour cuz you say they're talking about vlad.... i remember at bourbonnais in 2009 i got a pic with terry and bullshitted with him, and he repeated over and over again "no chance in hell" that vlad gets in teh HOF.

then imagine my surprise a year or two ago when vlad's name got mentioned as a possible HOFer, terry brought him up and said that he's always been beating that drum that's for sure.... i did a spit-take and nearly choked on my cigarette puff as i heard that.

i'm listening now.... we all know that dan creams himself over bbref's player comparisons, and like, while vlad's regular comprable player list isn't all that, his comprable by age one is quite nice:

They didn't smack down the 45 year old guy who claimed Verlander was the best pitcher in his lifetime hard enough. They just kind of politely disagreed and it took a long time before Terry finally mentioned the best pitcher of his generation and arguably the best left-hander in the history of the game.

Of course, Pedro has the numbers that are going to appeal to bernstein, the giant ERA+. But he seemed puzzled that he didn't have the amount of decisions that other guys did. Randy Johnson picthed over 200 innings twice as many times as Pedro. Innings pitched are far more important than people give them credit for. When Gio Gonzales can only get five innings, guys like Storen have to come in. Johnson and Verlander finish that game.

A couple weeks ago, they both heavily implied that Mike Trout is probably on steroids. The very next day, the A.J. rumors started circulating, and both of them basically said "That's absurd! There's no evidence!"

They haven't outright denied that Verlander is juicing, but like Pedro, he serves as an instructive example of how EVERYONE IS TAINTED except the guys they like.
