It's probably a crappy modem. We have had five or six of them replaced in eight years.

You definitely have to have them turn your modem on.

This is routine problem with Comcast, and you are better off shopping around for a new provider.

Even if I bought it through the store and not through them? If so, Ill have my wife try calling today since I wont be home til 9pm tonight. That should be comical.

They need your modem's MAC address.

Comcast is still the best cable provider around - despite their occasional issues and pricing. Also make sure you have the correct DNS settings when you call Comcast giving them your new MAC address. They can also test connection from their end to make sure the internet is getting to the modem properly. If they can verify that is correct, than it might be a router issue.

To check that, once your new modem is hooked up and Comcast has it registered - connect the modem directly to a PC and test internet.

Thanks. Ill try calling tonight when I get home. Hopefully I can get through since it will probably be after 9.

It is not your modem, though. It is their service. The fact that the TV signal comes in and the internet signal is not means nothing.

Switch providers. You're probably better off getting a thumb drive internet hub that you can take anywhere.

Very common (and recurring) problem: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 242AAGkL3s

Ive though of switching but i'm on an apartment lease and until now have had few problems with them.

It's not your modem. I've had the same problem numerous times. Keep the receipt.

AT&T would probably have the lowest price, but I think they are DSL. They also have thumbhubs though.

I have their DSL and it works just fine - never an issue.

Canceled comcast and went with ATAT. When I called to cancel Comcast guy simply said, "There service sucks and you will be back with us within the year."

They didn't try to retain you?

And I don't doubt him.

Their speeds and up-time don't compare to Comcast. Again - for all Comcast's issues, they are still the best cable provider.

The grass is not greener, in other words.

We had At&T for 2 years at my last apt and it was a nightmare. Service drops constantly. I think they had to come out and replace the router 3 or 4 times. Went back to Comcast at the new place so far 5 months in not one issue. AT&T blows.

I had one major issue with AT&T in 4 years. They bent over backwards to correct the issue and gave me free premium channels for 6 months. They work hard to retain your business. When I had Comcast I was calling them once a month with problems and when I finally told them I was going to cancel they basically said 'meh'. Fuck Comcast.
