@MikePereira: Yes, you can onside kick a safety kick. You just can't use a tee

slow your roll a little there champ...the 49ers had 1st and goal on two different occasions in the 4th quarter already holding a 4 point lead and only came away with three points...the seahawks were holding on for dear life...deserve got nothing to do with it

Whoa whoa whoa, chief. You know as well as I do, that a half point can make all the difference in the world.

I'm arguing out of boredom, but anyway...

There were 43 seconds left when the safety occurred. What has a better chance of happening in only 43 seconds?

1. A fumbled snap and an 80 yard TD drive

2. A successful onside kick, 70 yard TD drive, successful onside kick, 20 yard drive and a FG. (Even in practice with no defense on the field, that probably needs at least 25 seconds)

Sure, but on the deserved level, I think it is a reasonable expectation to come out of first and goal with at least three points each time, which would have covered every 49ers bet. I don't think the 7.5+ players deserved to lose and you can make the argument that they (we) were on the right side. It just didn't work that way. The safety was the undeserved miracle bailout.

#2 does because you are let tin the other team control their destiny in that scenario.

In scenario #1 you get to keep the ball and the game is over after a kneel down.

Obviously, a successful snap and the game is over. There would be few debates in sports if everything went as planned. The argument is in the "oh shit" what-if moments.

If I'm coaching, I feel better about my teams chances of winning in scenerio #2 than I would #1 IF the snap is fumbled.

Stop the presses! Scorehead and I agree on something.

FF, the 49ers could have fumbled the free kick, remember the NFC Championship game last year? Jim Harbaugh handled the situation perfectly. Like I told Mac, Harbaugh's job is to win games, not cover spreads.

Yeah they could have. They could have fumbled the snap from the victory formation too. Last year's punt fumble was totally different. They didnt have the game won yet.

I alreay said Harbaugh made the right decision. But it was to prevent injury, not to give his team the better chance to win. The game was won.

Not to pick a fight here FF, but I just read a article on ESPN.com and Harbaugh never mentioned doing it for player safety. He did it so they couldn't try an onside kick and get the ball back.

That's fine. That reason just doesnt make sense to me, for the reasons I already said here.
