A lot of it sounds like "traditional" drills/exercises, they were just done at odd hours of the day/night.

I'd say it's somewhat humiliating waking guys up at random hours to go run bases in the dark. They are professional athletes, and a lot of very highly rated ones in that system. It's a lot more exposure to injury having them run on sand, through pools, diving etc. Grossly irresponsible management of talent that seemingly goes up to at least the GM

If you don't see the difference between asking guys to run relay's on the beach, running through pools, diving in sand and guys dressing up in costumes then we are no where close to agreeing on this.

They are different. I agree.

Neither one is a big deal. I don't feel bad for the millionaires that had to wake up early and do physical tasks as part of their preparation for their occupation. Nobody should lose their job because of that, IMO. Nobody did anything wrong.


I'll hang up and listen as to how you believe that forcing someone to dress like a cheerleader in public prepares them for their occupation.

It doesn't, but it also doesn't expose them to injury unlike the other non baseball related activities. At least the dress up can somewhat be spun at team building and marketing (even though I don't really agree with that)

You are talking about player hazing, which is much different than management forcing minor league prospects to fill a trash can with sand.

I can see what the Pirates people were trying to do, and it is unfortunate somebody got hurt. I personally don't think anybody should be fired for it though.

You guys are of the opinion that pro athletes should only do specific sport-related drills activities in order to prepare for their season? Otherwise the person that is making them do that should be fired. Do I have that right?

Nobody lost life or limb, nor were the exposed to risk of losing same. I'll give you it sounds kinda lame, but that's it. Why anybody should care about this doesn't quite click with me. At worst, it's fraternity-type hazing except at considerably lower levels, and it's not like the Pirates orginization is the only team in sports doing similar things like this.

I never said anybody should be fired. I said some of these were not traditional baseball drills, and I am 100% correct with that statement.

I'll stand by my statement. The injury risk doing just traditional baseball drills is high enough. Having these guys perform these non baseball related drills serves absolutely no purpose except greatly increasing the risk of very highly drafted and talented players to injury...which happened.
