But do you have statistical evidence? Until then, I will not believe you.

JORR, what items do you have in mind? I think I use it differently. It's like a big garage sale for me. I'm trying to get what I think of as a deal and nothing I buy is really expensive. Most of the time I'm trying to pay under retail price. Maybe you could do it for some items more than others though.

It could be anything. At one time I was selling a lot of stuff on ebay. I always started the auctions at $2.00 to save the fees. Of course you can always put a reserve on your auction, but my experience is that puts a chill on bidding. The psychology of an auction is an interesting thing. I've been on both sides of it. The best thing that can happen for you as a seller is two goofs getting in a pissing match.

I could write a book on racehorse auctions. I can tell you that if you walked into one cold off the street, you'd get spun in a circle and likely pay way more than you should have. Just last year an experienced guy I know ended up getting bid up with phantom bids to the tune of an extra 50 grand or so.

Back to ebay, I often let stuff go at ridiculously low prices because I was selling a lot of different stuff and I wanted a good reputation. I might not have done so had I believed the level of naivete was as rampant as it seems to be on this board. For example, I remember letting a game-used Ken Boyer bat go for like $15 when I know it was worth around $300. But occasionally there would be something I wasn't going to let go at a low price. I would just have a friend put a bid out there for the lowest price I was willing to take.

I'll start keeping track.

Who the fuck is Ken Boyer...and who the fuck would pay $300 for a piece of wood you can't plug into anything?

Ken Boyer bat worth $300. And we're the naive ones. Right, JORR.

You may be right. That's the appraisal I got from a guy who knows that stuff. The market on ebay definitely agreed with you though. There are authenticity issues. Most autographs out there are phony too but I'm not up for an argument over how I could know that.

I would say that generally, ebay is a good buyer's market.

I guarantee you she's not a virgin. Anybody that even thinks of selling it, isn't a virgin. There is no such thing as a virgin hooker. They just don't exist.

Except you can't bid yourself up. You can increase your max bid if you're winning, but that doesn't increase the current price at which you're winning.

Why would you place numerous bids rather than just waiting until the end of the auction to bid?

I don't know what you're saying. Can I make up a fake eBay name and bid on my item? Yes. Can I bid on the item I'm selling with the same username for both? I would hope eBay has a policy in place that disallows that.

eBay can track things you cannot, like IP addresses used, login and bid times, as well as consistency of occurrences from item to item. They don't need to have proof to shut an account down - they only need a suspicion.

Guys bidding their own items in is rampant on ebay. And in every vendue you might find anywhere in the world.

100% correct.

If you don't have a sniping program and will be busy at the time of the auction's end. I've done it. if it ends at 3 a.m., and I want to up my max, I will do it. DOn't really see anything wrong with that.
