What are your thoughts on it? Does anyone have it or is planning to upgrade?

No on 95? Yes on 98?

Someone is just trying to force a pattern there, methinks.

How can Windows 8 get a "NO" if it was just recently released? The feedback that I've seen, so far, has been pretty positive.

I used the beta version and couldn't wait to go back to Windows 7. I predict a big fail for Miscrosoft on this...at least with respect to desktop PCs (I didn't use it on a tablet).

You might want to research a little bit harder. Some of the most well known tech sites and blogs have broken it down and summarized it as a "don't purchase until at least SP1."

And Lipid...I'm not the one who came up with that. It is a "thing", so evidently many people agree with it. I'm one of many.

EDIT: For instance

http://orclev.tumblr.com/post/185551414 ... -will-suck

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2256248

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2401064,00.asp

Those pages are from Google's top 10 results returned alone. I could go on.

You're smarter than this...I know you are...

I'm not seeing anything that is going against what I questioned...the second link (which is a thread on another forum...good lord, I hope someone cites this board in discussion on another forum) features a lot of disagreement on that theory...so unless you want to hang your hat on the musings of a guy with 16 posts on the AnandTech forums, well...

As for the third link you cited, it lists 95 as one of the good operating systems, and goes with 97 (unreleased) as the bad one in between 98.

So yeah, I still don't know how you can say no to 95 and yes to 98...

I thought it was yes on 95 too Lipid, but you're arguing with a know it all, so...

I bought a 7 laptop last week. I have no interest in 8 unless it's on a tablet, which I have no interest in right now.

He is arguing with someone who has been messing with PC's since he was 8.

So yeah...I'm going to have an educated opinion on the matter.

Meh. I've read plenty of solid reviews from reviewers as well as consumers.

Imagine that....some people like it and some people don't.

Nope. Just can't stand you. An informal poll of this board will show that I'm not alone either. Maybe it isn't "us". Maybe, just maybe it's you.

That was actually pretty common among my circle in high school...i tried ME but it was awful. 2000 was good but driver support was meh.

ME wasnt a version of 2000... ME and 2000 were completely different OS's...ME was based on the 9x platform, 2000 on the NT.

as someone who uses 95 AND 98 every day (long long story) I can tell you without reservation that 95 was a far better OS. Hands down.

An internet search will inform you as to why Windows ME and Windows 2000 are often batched together. To sum it up, Windows ME is basically Windows 98 with many of the planned upcoming features of Windows NT betas (what would become Windows 2000). Those features were intended to be "upgrades" (removing DOS involvement in many functions, security enhancements, etc.), yet ended up brutalizing the function of the OS.

An internet search will also tell you they are different operating systems running different kernals.
