If he wants to come super ass cheap for one year sure. Outside of that no thanks. There is literally no major league ready prospects who he would be blocking and someone needs to eat up 200 innings

So if one is a douchebag for giving it out, and a douchebag for not giving it out...how does one not be a douchebag?

What is the sound of one hand clapping grasshopper.....Dust in the wind....dude....dust in the wind.

BINGO! That is what I have been trying to say about the other "open" positions in the lineup. I'm all for the rebuild but if you can't slide a prospect in there get a FA for a year or two. Big Deal! People on here think that's nuts for some reason.

Give him the Wakefield treatment. $5M a year with mutual option for the following year every year until he wants to retire or the Cubs no longer want him.

Eh I agree with the thought. I just think Dempster is a pud. Can't we find another old crappy pitcher to take the ball every fifth day and eat innings? What is Oliver Perez up to these days?

I agree, doesn't have to be Dempster. Plenty of guys to fit that job.

I would be OK if he got on the juice and gave us a Sammy Sosa impersonation to the tune of 60 HRs a year

I would actually enjoy this tremendously. Especially if he tossed the glasses down after twenty seconds and declared it stupid.

The Red Sox and Cubs are among a few teams talking to the Angels about Dan Haren, who could be traded in advance of an option that is coming due.

The Angels are exploring trades for Haren, whose $15.5-million option, with a $3.5-million buyout, is due today.

The Red Sox have been known to be seeking a deal for Haren, but the Cubs are a new team. There are said to be others, as well.

The Cubs are an interesting entry in that they don't look like a likely 2013 contender. However, they have said they seek veteran pitching to help lead their staff. It was reported they may have interest in bringing back Ryan Dempster, who never wanted to leave.

Haren expects to be dealt somewhere today. The Angels seem inclined not to pick up his option if they can't find a suitable trade, as their focus is on re-signing free agent pitcher Zack Greinke. There is nothing to prevent them from picking up Haren's option, and trading him later, but it seems more likely they will either trade him, or decline the option.

The other possibility is the Angels could make Haren a qualifying offer of $13.3-million by today's deadline, but that seems unlikely since they'd still be responsible for the $3.5-million buyout, making that route even more expensive.

Haren told the Los Angeles Times he expects to be traded. It was reported in this space three days ago that the Angels were exploring trades for both Haren and Ervin Santana.

Angels GM Jerry Dipoto was able to trade Santana, who had a $13-million option, to the Royals. Haren, who was 12-13 with a 4.33 ERA, would seem to have a better market, despite a slightly higher option price and a back issue, which he pitched through.

Doesn't matter. I think the Cubs are only trying to trade for him so they can trade him at the deadline to a contender for top prospects.

His fastball is down almost three miles per hour since 2010. He blamed the velocity on the back injury, but that was only last year. However, at age 32, and a career 3.66 ERA, I think I'd be interested. But I wouldn't give anything over three years, and I've heard nothing about contract demands.

$15.5M for a trade chip? Even if you trade him at the deadline, you've had to pay him $10.3M already. That is pricey.

Considering the payroll is at $60M right now and they need to put butts in the seats, its chump change.

Does a Dan Haren signing put butts in the seats?

Dan Haren, the Cubs first 40 game winner.

They need a pitcher to eat some innings but to say that Dan Haren puts butts in the seats is insane. Unless they actually put him at a ticket window, he will not be a reason for a single ticket purchased.

People would rather see him pitch than Randy Wells or whatever other turd they have in AAA. He improves the overall product the Cubs put on the field, which would make them more competitive which would make them more attractive to watch.

I'm not saying that people want to see Dan Haren because he is a superstar, just that it makes the product better.

The Cubs should try to trade Vitters for Haren and have the Angels throw in some cash. He's from Anahiem and maybe a change of scenery will help him out. 1yr/$10M for Haren would be a pretty good deal and if he pitches decent they can flip him for something at the deadline. They HAVE to upgrade the rotation. They can't have another season of running out turds like Volsted, Justin Germano, Brooks Raley and Jason Berken.

I am just going to go out on a limb and say nobody wants Vitters.

The Angels took the great Brandon Sisk for Ervin Santana a couple days ago. They seem to be a little desparate to get rid of these guys.
