Spiegel just suggested Marmol for Haren.

If you were all on board with blowing off 2012, you really should be staying the course and do the same in 2013. There is almost nothing they can do that will get them past BOTH the Cardinals and Reds. They would need some luck to even match the Brewers and Pirates. I am not trolling with this post. This team really needs one more year of full on suckage before the reclamation begins.

I think a few signings could bring them to a 75-80 win team. That's pretty close to second wild card in some years.

@PWSullivan: Cubs haven't confirmed Marmol to Angels rumor. Marmol reportedly spilled the beans to Dominican outlet.

@MikeDiGiovanna: #Angels are on the verge of trading RHP Dan Haren to the #Cubs for RH reliever Carlos Marmol.

Thank you sweet Jesus. That would be nice. Seems a little too good to be true.

Oh my. If this is straight up, I absolutely love this deal. Haren should be worth far more at the deadline if he's healthy. Innings eater as well.

Oh and I disagree with BC saying Haren will basically sell out all 81 home games with his mere presence

I wonder who they'll bring in to close games? Haren is a crap shoot but a good gamble as trade bait at the deadline.

What better way to find out if he is ready or not then to throw him into the fire

I'm very concerned about the dip. He blamed it on the back, but it started in 2010. Still a great deal.

Le sigh. RT @Alden_Gonzalez Now I'm told reports of the deal still premature -- #Angels still active in discussions with more than one team.

The latest update is that this is solely over Marmol waiving his mother fucking no trade clause.

According to Marmol's quotes, he wants to go to Anaheim. So I don't know about that.

I swear to god if another idiot doesn't want to leave the Cubs....

Now according to Muskat I believe....the trade is"not happening". Unfuckingbelievable Hendry.

Now Mooney from CSN is saying it is dead as well.

Now it seems that Marmol was down for the trade but after some medical concerns killed the deal on the Cubs end. That I am fine with.

Reported Cubs' trade of Marmol for Haren is off

By Paul Sullivan, Tribune reporter 9:26 pm, November 2, 2012

The rumored trade of closer Carlos Marmol to the Los Angeles Angels for right-hander Dan Haren is off, a team source said late Friday.

Marmol reportedly told a Dominican reporter he had been dealt, starting a Twitter uprising that led to several confirmations a deal was done.

Marmol is due $9.8 million in the last year of a three-year, $20 million deal while Haren has a $15.5 million option that was expected to be picked up by Friday's 11 p.m. (CDT) deadline.

Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer was unavailable for comment. A Cubs spokesman said they had no news to confirm.

Fox Sports's Ken Rosenthal tweeted that Marmol was asked if he'd agree to waive his no-trade clause to go to the Angels, but that no deal was completed and the Angels were still talking to other teams.

Even Cubs pitcher Matt Garza tweeted he was excited about adding another “horse” to the rotation, referring to Haren. But both the Cubs and Angeles declined to confirm the rumor, which appeared to fizzle out a few hours later.

It was the second time in just over three months that a potential Cubs deal unfolded after being reported as done. The Cubs agreed to send Ryan Dempster to Atlanta for Randall Delgado in July, but Dempster was livid after the report was leaked before he agreed to waive his no-trade rights, and the deal ultimately fell through.

Haren went 12-13 with a 4.33 earned-run average last year, battling back tightness, but was expected to be a one-year rental whom they could flip for prospects at the trade deadline. A rotation of Haren, Garza and Jeff Samardzija at the head of it would at least have been a start for the Cubs as they try and improve from a 101-loss season.

Marmol said the last day of the season he didn’t want to be traded.

“Because I love the city, I love the team,” he said. “I grew up here. When you love something, you don’t want to leave it. I like it here.”

Marmol said he was willing to go through a rebuilding process.

“They know, everybody knows,” he said. “We struggled. Just hope they can put a better team out there and I think they’re going to do it. Who knows?”

The Cubs could promote James Russell to the closer's role, or get a free agent reliever and insert him into the spot for a year.

Which makes it a near certainty that the issue was the medicals. RT @Alden_Gonzalez #Angels have declined the option on Dan Haren.

Gordon Wittenmyer ‏@GDubCub
No reviving Haren-Marmol trade: Angels decline Haren's option. He's a free agent.

I'll be interested to see what this would use up of the international budget.

By Phil Rogers, Tribune reporter
7:02 p.m. CST, November 8, 2012

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. -- The Cubs are interested in adding Korean left-hander Hyun-jin Ryu to their starting rotation for at least the next few years.

Major League Baseball sources confirmed that the Cubs were among the teams who entered a bid for Ryu before Thursday's 4 p.m. Central deadline. He has been posted by the Hanwha Eagles in the Korean Baseball Organization, and the Eagles now have four business days to determine if they are going to accept the highest of the sealed bids, which they have been forwarded by MLB.

Ryu, 25, is represented by Scott Boras. If the Eagles accept the bid, the team making it will have 30 days to sign him. If a deal cannot be reached, no money would change hands and Ryu would remain property of the Eagles.

According to scouts, Ryu throws in the low-90s and has a plus changeup, a skill set that compares favorably to 27-year-old Wei-Yin Chen, the Taiwanese left-hander who went 12-11 for Baltimore last season. He has averaged 181 innings a season in the KBO, leading the league in strikeouts five times. He was a major contributor to the Korean team that won a gold medal in the 2008 Olympics and finished second in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

It is not known how many other teams bid for Ryu.
