Trust me the right would love Rubio. Especially with the just demonstrated change in demographics. Rubio would deliver like 90% hispanic vote. They would be proud of having a 1st hispanic Prez.

I think we'll find out in 2016. That primary is going to be tough. I doubt he'll carry the Hispanic vote. At best he'll reduce the margins by about 10-15 points. That may be good enough for victory IF a woman isn't running against him.

Good thing for Republicans that Mexicans are stupid and would not vote for the best candidate.

I don't think there is any way he would carry 90% of the hispanic vote. But he maybe able to get 40-50% of it which would probably be enough to win the election.

I don't think having a woman President matters nearly as much as a minority President. The stigma that life is somehow tougher for women than men in America is pretty much gone already.

You may be right. There are more women voters and IMO women would be even more motivated this time to elect a woman. BTW I still believe women have it tougher than men. Even though it may not be as bad as it once was.

Edit: All things being equal I would support the woman.

A female president would most likely be past the age where Aunt Flo still visits every month.

It doesn't really change anything though. Do women really feel like second class citizens still?

I understand why a minority would. I'm not sure why a woman would. My wife and I live pretty similar existences.

Oh man, women have it way worse if they want to advance to the upper ranks, which are still dominated by men.

And then be mothers at the same time (many of them). Gotta be attractive, aggressive, prove you are tough, deal with the old asshole men and their leers. Kid wakes up sick with a fever and you got a big presentation that day. What do you do?

That's in the process of being erased though. In the next 15 years, women will actually make more than men on average. This mostly has to do with them catching up in education and in many ways surpassing men.

The same thing men have always done. You choose between your job and your family responsibilities.

There is much more pressure for women to be both good mothers and career women. If you don't see that, I can't explain it to you.

Every parent is expected to be a good parent. If you work, it makes it harder.

We'll likely always be a family where both parents work. Is my responsibility to be a good parent any less?

Someone mentioned the tea partiers above. I wonder how relevant they will be in 4 years. My brother in law who is a supporter thinks this election will help them. I don't see it - they've lost a lot of their steam across the country. Plus, the more dumb shit they utter that makes no sense (I'm looking at you Todd Akin), the more the perception is that they are too extreme and even the party as a whole steps away from them.

Unfortunately, society (employers, schools, family, judges, etc) expects more from mothers when it comes to parenting. I don't know of a single father (I know dozens through work, school, church) who does his fair share of the parenting work. It starts at conception and ends in death.

By roughly 3K votes. 50.6% to 49.4%

I understand that, all things being equal, women do a majority of the child care related activities, but that often is not the case when the woman is in the upper ranks. They either have help or the husband takes a more active role because he has less work hours.

Stay at home dads have become much more prevalent now too.

Yeah, but how do they GET to the upper ranks? Hard work, sacrifice...more so than a man has to deal with. I'm just sayin women have a harder row to hoe. Maybe that's a bad metaphor....

hatchet there are several fathers on this board that do their fair share of parenting.

My wife normally works 3-4 evenings a week while I work days. I have 4 daughters to take care of those evenings. Would you not call that my fair share of parenting? This has been the routine for the last 5 years.

Would you say that over the lifespan of your kids, you have done 50% of ALL parenting? Preparing meals, laundry, homework, feeding baby, waking up in the middle of the night....all that shit you have done 50%? If so, very impressive. BUT would you not agree you are the exception and not the rule?

Most of the women I know that did it just followed the same path as the men. Go to school and then possibly graduate, medical, or law school, and then keep going.

I can say without a doubt that I have, and I know there are other fathers on here that have done the same. Sometimes there are no other options.

We don't have kids yet, but it's guaranteed that I'll do over 50% of the parenting because I work from home.

So, from an unbiased poll of CSFMB participants, it appears that men actually do more parenting than women.

I'm one lucky bastard!!

My wife works way more than I do. Unfortunately she doesn't get paid for it.
