I have been as impressed with Groce at this point as I was unimpressed with Beckman. Thomas might have gotten one right.

I like what he's doing too. I just think Illinois will be spectacularly average in the Big Ten. Many of the previews I see put Illinois barely above the terribleness that is Penn State and Nebraska. That's too low.

Can't get quality minutes if you don't know how to hold your liquor and are sitting in jail. :D

I see why, it is not every day you get someone who can raid the talent closet of Coastal Carolina

Don't worry. The bar that all the Purdue players get in trouble in is going away.

Which bar is that?

Where Else?

I look though and it looks like it moved. It was closed when we were there a few weeks ago.

I hated Where Else... I always ended up there while terribly intoxicated though so that might have had something to do with it.

Well, you better hope they all have iPhones. They'll never find it.

I hated it too. It's like a war zone at the end of the night. It's no wonder so many bad things happened there.

Michigan game, so at least the weather was awesome.

It's basically across the street, but hopefully Painter has banned them from going there.

That's good, maybe they can borrow the Hoosier basketball way of partying. Playing Lousville Chugger on a 2-story balcony wrap-around balcony. No surprise Derek Elston sucked but Will Sheehey was literally Miggy.

Here's my homerish thoughts on Iowa.

This team has the talent to be pretty darn good. Not top 3 in the conference good but certainly being in the conversation to be in the tournament come March. This is a team that beat Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin (2x), Minnesota (2x) and Illinois last year in the Big Ten.

The big get this past year was Adam Woodbury who was down to Iowa and North Carolina and told Roy to take a hike. He's a big body that runs the floor well. He'll probably not be a super offensive player this year since that always seems to develop slower for post players but his defense should be up to the task. He was a top 50 recruit for McCaffrey. In a normal year, Mike Gesell would have been a huge get (top 100 recruit).

The returning players include Roy Devyn Marble who will now be able to play off the ball and use his scoring talents. (Last year was at 11.5 ppg and 4 apg) They also return Aaron White (a ginger who was a workhorse at the 4 as a freshman 11/6 rpg), Josh Oglesby who was a good 3 pt shooter and Zach McCabe (8/5 rpg as a undersized 4/5). This is the first Iowa team in a while with a great deal of depth due to the influx in talent and will be able to play McCaffrey's uptempo style all game.

Disappointing but not unexpected with our best player out and a young team. Bucknell returned 4 starters and is probably a NCAA tournament team.

Don't worry though. We can be terrible in the Big Ten for 3 years and then we can give out Sweet Sixteen rings the next year!

MSU with a big win over Kansas. Their defense will, once again, be the reason they have another deep tourney run this year.

Seems like every player on Duke can hit 3's effortlessly. They've also got a better interior defense than I remember them having in recent memory. They're only ranked 9?

Watching Purdue and UNC Wilmington and this whole deal of if someone gets touched by an elbow they have to go to the monitors and look at it and determine if it is a flagrant foul is just ridiculous. The last 2 plays of the game have involved an elbow and it has taken forever to get the deal sorted out. Basketball is a physical sport. If you cannot tell a foul is flagrant by the eye test on the court then you shouldn't be an official.

You have a great grasp of the definition of "flagrant".

So you want them to stop the game and take 10 mins to figure all this stuff out all the time?

No, I agree with you. If you have to look at it with a microscope it obviously wasn't flagrant.

I don't think that is going to play well once the Big 10 season starts.
