If he signs for anything close to that it would immediately become the worst contract in baseball.

Probably true. Because front line starting pitchers have more value than sluggers who strike out 200 times. Or unproven young third basemen.

No way. Every team is always looking for reliable lefties out of the pen. You could move him easily for a decent prospect.

JORR, is there anyone on the Sox who you believe is overpaid? You are the biggest homer.

The only possible teams I would see wanting Dunn would be Yankees and Texas if they lose Hamilton.

I'm not a homer at all. Danks and Viciedo are overpaid. Thornton and Crain are overpaid. Rios is overpaid. Konerko is probably overpaid, but there is nothing they could have done about that. They got him pretty much right for his career.

I think every team in baseball is interested in an .800+ OPS lefty stick.

They are not moving Sale or Peavy, their front line pitchers. They may, however, move Floyd, their FOURTH starter.

I'm shocked at some of the overrating of Floyd.

Outside Sabbathia, do the Yankees have a starter better than Floyd?

Well, if a big lefthanded bat in the middle of the order is something you lack, I don't think $14 million a year for the numbers he's likely to give you is too much.

Dunn is a frustrating player to watch. The old time fan isn't going to accept that a guy who hits .200 is worth anything.

I don't really like him and I wouldn't mind seeing him gone. I prefer to have more guys who can put the ball in play consistently. But now we're talking about a drastic remaking of the lineup and it isn't that easy to do it in a way that makes sense. I'd rather keep Dunn and his .800 OPS than just give him away, let alone eat part of his salary.

I'd like to see a guy like Michael Young over at third for a year. I don't know what it would take to get that done, but I think Texas would move him. I'd consider trading Viciedo if there was an opportunity. He's a Boras guy and I'd get rid of him while the getting is good.

Also, A-Rod has to be available no matter what anyone is saying. I just can't see how the Yankees could bring him back. And they're in a position of weakness. Nobody is going to take on that salary or give them any good young players for a guy they're desperate to move. And they can play it as cool as they want, I do believe they're desperate to dump him.

Come on, Bryan. Stop beefing with BRick and weigh in on Floyd. Is he the worthless turd that most Sox fans seem to think he is?

How excited were you for the Cubs when the Red Sox won the World Series twice? Where does the Red Sox ending the curse rank in Cubs history? Is it the greatest moment of all time?

I never said he was worthless. You think I'm under valuing hime. Maybe I am just a bit. But you are a way way way over valuing him. He's a guy, a 4th starter on a good team, a 3rd starter on a bad team. Absolutely nothing more.

Make it happen Kenny Hahn

I havent read every post, but I like Floyd.

I would trade him for Moustakas. I think the calculated risk is worth it.

But people always underrate the slightly over 500 200 ip horses.

If were talking about titles were talking about titles (both Championships and what goes on the ol Team President business card. Theo has more titles and a better title)

He's a rock solid number three with the potential to be a top guy. You're not upset that they're paying "Losing Pitcher" John Danks $15 million a year but you want to get rid of Floyd who is making $9 million for unproven prospects?

If you want to start a thread about Danks, go ahead. Don't try and defer from the point here.

Floyd is a guy and nothing more. He is a piece that you move 100% of the time if the right deal comes along for him. You think he is a lot more than that, and you would be wrong. As I said there are a lot of guys out there who could put up Floyd type numbers.

If we are talking about "world series building" Theo gets no more than 1.5 and others have made the case that even that is excessive.

But if you trade Floyd you won't have one of those guys. You'll be trying to fill a rotation spot by running some goof who is almost assuredly worse out there every fifth day.

I have no problem moving Floyd if they're going to make a corresponding move and sign McCarthy or Marcum or a guy like that. But I doubt that is what will happen. Instead we'll get to find out just how bad Quintana or Santiago or Axelrod really are and that's going to be much worse than Floyd.

Say Santiago goes 9-11 with a 4.90 ERA in 27 starts next season. That is not that much worse than Floyd.

It is though, Frank, That would be a bad season for Floyd. Floyd is a proven major league starter who, for the most part, has taken the ball every fifth day throughout his career.

Would you be stunned if Floyd goes 16-10 with a 3.50 ERA? I wouldn't and I'm sure he'll do that or better some season(s) whether he's in a White Sox uniform or not. I don't believe Santiago will ever come close to that.

Floyd is worth about $10 mil. At that price I am indifferent to having him. He'll be 30 in January, had arm problems last year, and his pitched 200 innings exactly once in his 8 years. Decent pitcher. Maybe he puts together a good first half and you can deal him.

I would be dead shocked if he put together a season like that. He has had ONE season where he did anything close to that, and that was 2008 where he was 17-8 with a 3.64 ERA. He hasn't sniffed numbers that good since. From '09 thru '12 Floyd is 45-48 with a 4.20 ERA. So you seem to think the Sox cannot find a guy on the open market or internally who can put up a sub .500 record with an ERA in the mid 4's? You rate Floyd too high. Since 2009, its been "losing pitcher" Gavin Floyd more often than not.

His best finish record wise since then has been this past season at 12-11, everything else was .500 or worse. His best finish ERA since '08 was '09 when it was 4.06. He starts games and can eat some innings. So he's a guy, but a durable guy. You are still putting his value way too high.
