RHP Anthony DeSclafani and C Jeff Mathias are also going to Miami. The Marlins are sending $4M to Toronto.

The Marllins are getting a bunch of talent back but this trade is still ridiculous. It's a win for the Blue Jays just to get rid of Yunel Escobar.

The Marlins do a fire sale better than anybody. Really an art form.

Still,Charlie Finley was the first to dump salary. He did it mid-season but MLB never saw anything like it and the commish (Bowie Kuhn) put the kibosh on it.

Yep and in another couple years they'll go on a buying spree and be back in the playoffs. Maybe if their 2012 manager can work behind the scenes to Make it happen. Just kidding it wasn't his fault. Kenny Williams tanked the marlins this year.

Loria is unreal. I guess he got his stadium, didn't see the wins with the big payroll and said fuck it, time to make some money.

He is lucky as hell to have 2 world championships so I guess he feels he has that magic touch.

Wow.

This Mariins bullshit is the type of thing that will cause rule changes.

What a terrible situation for baseball.

I'm wondering why you would trade away every expensive piece of talent to cut costs but willingly eat $7.5 million in manager's salary. If you didn't like Ozzie the best FU would be to make him manage the remainder in the hopes he would quit before the end of the contract.

Does anyone think that's an upgrade from Young?

2 for 26. More money than I thought he'd get. OF market is relatively strong this off season

In this case, quite literally, being a great person in addition to a great ballplayer is worth something. #Torii

How is he doing as a father?

Somewhere in between the guy I just saw wearing a "World's Best Dad" shirt and Antonio Cromartie.

Signing with an organization that magically turns sluggers careers around? Shocking!

The Yankees resigned RHP Hiroki Kuroda to a 1yr/$15M contract. Kuroda turned down a $13.3M qualifying offer that could have netted the Yankees a draft pick had he not resigned.

This is a real nice deal for the Yankees. Kuroda was very good for them last season.

Chapman is going to the rotation, and Madson just signed with the Angels.

Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS
madson gets $3.5M guaranteed, $2.5M roster bonus (just has to be on roster) plus $1M incentives. so likely $6M plus

That's a great signing for the Angels. Fieri can move back to setup.

Danny Valencia, we hardly knew ye in Boston. The third baseman is going to the Orioles, and he'll be reunited with the newly acquired 2B Alexi Casilla, whom the O's got off waivers from the Twins.
