Here is your reason for him looking elsewhere:

Jones just got a new contract with a pay raise, taking his 2012 salary up to $1.575 million. That still ranks him No. 4 among the six head coaches whose salaries have been reported, behind Strong, Holtz and UConn coach Paul Pasqualoni ($1.6 million).

Of the eight head coaches currently in the Big East, only Strong and Jones have led their teams to Big East championships. But Jones has done more with less. Not only does he make less, his budget ranks No. 5 among the six schools that disclosed financial information through public information requests.

Just to compare, Louisville had athletics department expenses of $81.1 million for 2010-11; Cincinnati had expenses of $43.7 million. That is nearly half. The Bearcats also rank third to last in athletics spending among all public schools in AQ conferences.
That's what would be so exciting if they got him. They would be making a much needed investment into football. They let their football and basketball programs stagnate with two quality but aging coaches. Matt Painter had to virtually quit to bring the basketball program into modern times. Purdue fans had to make the stadium a ghost town to make the changes for football.

Jones is probably already making more than Hope. LOL

And the way Purdue sits today, is it really a better job than Cincinnati?

That is probably part of the reason why Brick described it as "believe it when see it"

I think it's better than Cincinnati, simply because the Big East is a death trap for those who remained. With the new BCS, it might as well be Conference USA.

Purdue also can put a lot more resources into it, including some massive stadium renovations because of the BTN money that it sounds like Cincinnati just can't do.

Well, I wasn't sure they were willing to make that type of investment. They'll obviously pay more than they were Hope, but it probably takes $2 million a year to get anyone who isn't a MAC coach.

Also, I didn't know he was unhappy at Cincinnatti. I think this is just a ploy to get more money and support. We may be what Missouri was to Matt Painter.

If he was at Central Michigan right now, I think he'd choose Purdue over Cincy. If he is at Cincy, I think it's a lot harder to pull him out.

I don't think people realize how tough it is for coaches like Beckman, Hope, Ferentz, and Wilson. These schools are in the middle of nowhere. Trying to convince a highschool kid from California, Texas and Florida to go to a cold weather state in the middle of nowhere is near impossible. I'd argue this is a bigger recruiting hurdle than Northwestern's academic standards.

I think this be an even tougher job for schools out west:
A&M
Texas Tech
Kansas State
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
BYU
Washington St.
Boise St.
Kansas
Etc.

I procured five tickets and a parking pass to the Illinois-Purdue game on Saturday. I paid $25 for the lot, thinking it was a steal, and then saw tickets were going for under $2 on stubhub.

But I will be part of the footnote in Illinois football history that the Tim Beckman era will surely become.

Michigan started Denard Robinson at RB today in what I consider to be a brilliant move. Too late to really impact their bowl game, but still a smart move.

 You are literally the only person in America that has any concern about losing to Illinois. Trust me.

Here's how the game will go because this is how every Illinois game has gone.

The 1st quarter will be fairly competitive and Illinois may even take a 3-0 or, manna from heaven, a 7-0 lead. Illinois will do something stupid, likely a turnover. Purdue will score and then take a lead.

Illinois will then quit and it will be quite apparent. Sometimes teams will quit and you don't really see it. You'll see this. Purdue will then proceed to dominate the game and win something like 31-10 or 34-6.
My concern was warranted, which is the exact reason why Hope is coaching his last game this weekend. I doubt he's even there for the bowl game if they can beat Indiana, a team that almost made the Rose Bowl this year.

Can't wait to get destroyed by Baylor in some bowl game in Texas. Hopefully Dave Doeren can start recruiting on next Monday.

I will say that I was surprised they didn't outright quit this week like they had been doing. I identified about 3 times when I thought it would happen and D actually stuck with it.

That said, Illinois is a horrible, horrible team and my prediction about 7 weeks ago that they wouldn't win another game this season is probably the best one I've made this year.

So, I was there. They announced around 41,000 attendance for the game but I think at max it was around 25K. Despite the close score, I never felt at any point that the Illini could take the lead. It was one of most boring college football games I've ever attended and I've seen some real shit stain teams in my time; Purdue under Akers and Colletto and I was an undergrad during Turner's tenure at U of I.

Then, driving down Neil St after the game, I discovered to my everlasting chagrin that Gumby's had closed.

Go Blue!!!

The tressel dick sucking fest celebrating the 02 team was about as sickening as the osu players trying to start shit with the michigan players when they were entering the field before the game.
