That being said it is my favorite holiday by a mile.

Mine's 4th of July but T-day is a close second. Halloween is last.

Now that I have a kid Halloween has moved back into my good graces.

Agreed 100%. I could talk all day about Thanksgiving (Ugie already alluded to part of it earlier).

You and I need to stand in the vestibule on the South Shore train and just talk....about stuff. You're a man with good thoughts.

Speaking of that, I saw two women walking around downtown Chicago this morning smoking a joint. Right on State St at like 745 AM.

I've seen that a few times. It's usually more common in the summer though.

I saw the Rhythm Devils(drummers from the Dead, Mike Gordon from Phish, some Janis Joplin-type singer) at the Chicago Theater a few years back. After the show, around midnight, everyone filed out on to State St and there was immediately a minimum of 100 people smoking mostly joints, a couple blunts, and a few pipes and hitters on State St. Pretty soon it was spread out over 2-3 blocks that everyone was doing this. I thought it was pretty funny.

Start it on Wednesday and give everybody thanksgiving off again. I'm sure it'll eventually start Wednesday anyway.

I always thought an NFL game that Weds night before Thanksgiving would be pretty badass. Give the teams their 'bye' the Sunday before, and then they get 10 days before the next game as well.

Don't worry. Within 10 years Goodell will have an NFL game on every night of the week while simultaneously bragging about how much the league cares about player safety.

It boggles my mind that the NFL doesnt see that having all the games on Sunday is what makes it special. It turns gameday into an event. I fucking loathe Thursday Night and Monday Night games. Just god awful terrible shite.

Put every game on Sunday with your headline matchup on that night. Amazing fun will be had by all.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Saturday night game each weekend in December. The Thursday games I could do without, except for on Thanksgiving.

If you start it at midnight they'll be done shopping by the time they need to be a work. Need to sacrifice if you want the deals people!

That's their choice. I would never skip Thanksgiving to go shop. That sounds like an awful idea. If someone thinks it sounds like a good idea, go for it. It's silly to tell someone Thanksgiving is more important than shopping if they don't believe it is. They have the right to that belief.

As far as employees go, as long as they are informed of the job requirements and know about them when they agree to work there, I don't understand what the big deal is. Maybe some of them prefer to work those days if time and a half is given and they need the extra cash.

I understand all of the points about choice. But when do we say enough is enough? I'm sure there are people that will happily work the extra hours. How many people are forced in? Even if it's known ahead of time, why does it have to be a requirement for employment?

I would rather work on Thanksgiving than spend it with my extended family. Besides, everybody knows that Thanksgiving is by far the worst of all of the holidays. OTher than football (which we get every Thursday anyway now) what is the upside to Thanksgiving exactly?

A day off of work...aka the day before the IHSA football championship games and Christmas decoration day.

If I died of being trampled on Black Friday, I would hope my friends and family would make up a more normal story of how I died.

I would tell them you were trampled by a bunch of Wu Tang fans.

Besides visiting my mothers for the customary turkey day visit, I don't think I ever leave the house on that day or the next.

Yes, if you want to work during extended holiday hours, you have to work on Turkey Day.

What % of Thursday shoppers voted for Obama?

18%
22% voted for Romney

A surprising 60% didn't vote because they were in line at Best Buy for Black Friday.

I think it's understood that when you work retail, there's a possibility of working on some holidays.

I worked retail back in the day and had to work some major holidays. I didn't bitch about it. I did my time and a half and enjoyed the extra hours on my paycheck. Not sure what your complaint is.

Me too. Loved the extra money and when I also liked working so someone with kids could be home early on Christmas Eve. I closed Christmas Eve every year I worked retail.
