i remember when i was living in Crystal Lake in the mid-late 80's they had a parade route that went right over Rt. 14, the main artery in town, and the traffic was not rerouted - the parade just had to haul ass across during green lights which were short in duration. i can remember thinking it was pretty funny having the marching bands and so forth double-timing it across before the light turned red.

See, now that is plain stupid. If its such a short parade just stop the traffic on 14 for 3-5 minutes.

i think it was the 4th of july parade, so it was a pretty serious parade. i havent lived there in 15 years or so so i dont know if they still do that.

A buddy ran a marathon a few years ago, I think in the Quad Cities, that crossed train tracks. Runners were delayed because of a train. Bad idea. I think they have since changed the course.
