FF how can you give him a pass on Webb but not Williams and Carimi? Its seems to be very possible that they all are just flat out terrible and will continue to be terrible regardless of who is coaching them.

We have no way of knowing that though. Carimi, Webb, and Williams have never been coached by a different coach at the NFL level.

I get that his players aren't good. If he was an offensive line guru he would at least make them watchable, at least make them slightly better than they were. He hasn't. He has done a really poor job by any type of results-oriented criteria.

You get that his players aren't good, but he should make them good?

This is the NFL. Not college. A coach might be able to do that with 4 NFL players and a 'project.' But not with ALL 5 linemen at the same time. They are just bad. Period.

Niners didn't want Chilo because he is bad. He has been in the league 5 years and ee is getting paid $700k. He is not a good player. If he was, he would have gotten more money and more interest from other teams.

No, Webb is playing how a 7th rounder is expected to. He has 1 OK game and then 4 awful games. Sounds about right.

Chilo is not good. I agree. He hasn't gotten any better. Just like every single other offensive lineman coached by Tice with Chicago.

Find me the coach that takes 5 bad players and makes them all better. What is your case study? Is this happening all over the league? What am I missing?

And more importantly, 7th rounders aren't EXPECTED to be a starting LT on a supposed contender team. That is not expected at all. It's the most important position on the line.

Are you kidding? You really want me to go find examples of offensive linemen, including first and second year guys, improving? You cant be that dumb. I never said he should be making all 5 guys much better. I said he hasn't made one single player better. You cant argue that so you want to change the argument.

I agree. It's a shame Tice didn't help the LT you drafted in the 1st round.

And on top of that, his play calling is atrocious. If you have the 5 worst OL in the league, you probably should throw the ball 50 times a game. And if you do throw, you should probably have max protect.

I didn't know Mike Tice worked for Apple or loved math.

The Bears have a 1 first year guy, Carimi. Chris Williams was a horrible pick. That's Jerry's fault, not Tice.

And Webb has improved. You can't argue that he hasn't. Or you're not watching.

You're wrong. Im watching and he hasn't improved. He was terrible last year, he was terrible 8 weeks ago, and he was terrible last night.

28th team in sacks allowed? 49ers. 31st? Bears.

Curious, what other positional coaches do you think are underperforming?

Im surprised by that. But I believe the 49ers are also the top rushing team in the league, and the only bad game I have seen from their line is the Giants game. They played well against a really good Seattle front 7 on that Thursday night game.

Do you think the 49ers dont have one of the best offensive lines in the league? How many teams have better ones?

Alright, FF, I've held out long enough. Do you know who Tim Holt is? Without googling.

I'd take the 49ers line over Pittsburgh's line 10 times out of 10, and then laugh at anyone who preferred Pittsburgh's line.

Yeah, he was brought in to replace Tice. I read about that at the end of last season. Do you think Tice all of a sudden doesn't work with the line anymore?

He is the Offensive Line coach. FIRE TIM HOLT!!! NO ONE IS IMPROVING!!!

I bet he is. But this just furthers my point... how do you, as some guy on a coach, know the impact Tice has? How do you know it's not Tim Holt?

My premise remains, it's crazy for fans to value positional coaches. Just crazy.

Tim Holt has been here for like what, 9 months? Tice has been here 2 1/2 years. Much more of a time to put a stamp on a unit. And if Tice was such an offensive line guru, it stands to reason that he would still work with the offensive line after being promoted to O coordinator.

Even if Tice doesn't work with the OL at all anymore. Doesn't even talk to them. He should still have to know their strengths and weaknesses to call the game. He clearly doesn't understand that. His play calling hangs them out to dry almost as much as Martz's playcalling did.

But the point is, you have no idea how much or how little. How do you put responsibility on Tice and not Holt?

Chilo wasn't even here last year, so I guess he gets a pass (Holt responsible). Carimi couldn't even practice last year, so he gets a pass (Holt responsible). Lance Louis is the only guy I think is good enough to stay. Credit Tice. JaMarcus is actually better this year, even though you won't admit it. And Garza is Garza.

Maybe if Tice loses his job we could help him with his resume.

2002-2005 Head Coach for Minnesota Vikings. Lead pro bowl laden teams to 33-34 record including 1 play-off victory.
2010-2011 Offensive line coach for Chicago Bears. Helped line improve 32nd ranked line to 31st during tenure.
2012 Following success as O-Line coach, promoted to Offensive Coordinator. Currently guiding team featuring pro-bowl QB, RB & WR to 30th best in entire NFL.

Outside interests: Scalping Super Bowl tickets.
