I am doing absolutely nothing at work so I did some research. I am comparing Cutler's metrics vs another QB considered in some circles to be "elite" or top ten. Keep in mind Cutler did not play a complete season in 2011, so his numbers could be better or worse.
Based on the data below, would you want Cutler over QB "X" or vice versa? I guess my question is, is his offensive line along with his WRs, TEs, really the reason why he isn't playing better?

Cutler QBR TD INT
2012 80.4 12 10
2011 85.7 13 7
2010 86.3 23 16
2009 76.8 27 16
2008 86 25 18
avg 83.04 20 13.4

QB "X" QBR TD INT
2012 81.8 12 11
2011 92.9 29 16
2010 85.3 31 25
2009 93.1 27 14
2008 86.4 21 10
avg 87.9 24 15.2

JC TD/INT Diff
20
13.4
6.6

QBX TD/INT Diff
24
15.2
8.8

QBR Diff
87.9
83.04
4.86

I think Eli Manning is better than Cutler. Eli has also had a better supporting cast on offense than Cutler has.

Nice job Frank.

Although I do believe Cutler makes some dumb/courageous/dumb throws, I believe it is his supporting cast that is helping him have a poor year. The difference between Cutler's numbers and Eli's are marginal which makes me wonder how Eli can have two rings while Jay has none and may not get one in the near future.

Eli makes a lot of questionable throws too, SHARK (Mac) always called him 'Rex Grossman with a ring' for a reason. Eli has been the best QB going in the playoffs over the last few seasons. I think Eli has improved more over the last 2-3 seasons than Jay has, but it is kinda staggering how similar their numbers are.

statistically speaking Eli is never going to be counted as the best at his position. He doesnt look very good this year, thats for sure. the one thing that he has that has helped lead to his success is a ridiculous ability to shrug of adversity and criticism and shrug off adulation and praise. he is the same guy all the time in every game situation. he makes bad throws and throws his share of int's, but he doesnt get rattled often, he stands back there and delivers the ball. another key to his success is the giants commitment to keeping him safe. they arent loaded with pro bowl offensive lineman, but every year they commit to drafting or bringing in quality new young lineman and they are remarkably deep.

GM Jerry Reese has done an amazing job drafting quality players and bringing in the right free agents at the right time and cutting loose the right guys at the right time. Jerry Reese is the MVP of that team. His draft record is ridiculous since he took over in '07.

Eli's playoff performances are part of why the giants have had a couple good runs recently, but Reece's ability to draft and stock that roster with draft choice is the real reason they have been successful.

Either Eli is too dumb to comprehend the pressure around him or he just shrugs it off...

Either way...he has had some HUGE pressure moments that he has come out of shining like gold.

I give him credit for the gutsy plays and chalk it up to talent, but is he the reason they win....no.

In the playoffs he is a big reason why they have won.

He does not put them in the position to win. He has won some games with some late great plays, but his stats the first 3 qtrs have been terrible.

He's had 2 clunker playoff games (his 1st in 2005, and in 2008), but in their super bowl runs he's been really really good.

2007 Super Bowl champs
72-119 60.5%, 6 TD 1 Int, 102 rating

2011 Super Bowl champs
106-163 65%, 9 TD, 1Int, 107.25 rating

Oh and in those 8 playoff games, only one in New York. I'd say that is winning because of your quarterback.

This would seem to describe Cutler as well.
