Just checked the line on this game.... 19.5 points. Holy cow. I can't remember ever seeing NU favored by this many points. With Kain Colter and Venric Mark (our two greatest offensive weapons), I can't imagine why anyone would give those points. Seems ridiculous to imagine Northwestern actually blowing out anyone, particularly by that much.

Take the points... ILL-INI.

You must not have watched an Illinois game this year.

Well, prepare to be pleasantly surprised then.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Yeah, I wouldn't have expected anyone to have seen an Illinois game.

I guess you're right. But Northwestern isn't the type of team that is blowing the doors off of anyone. And Fitz goes uber conservative and that probably cost us a few games the past several years. No one plays down to competition like the Purple.

My guess is Venric Mark doesn't play a down and Kain only gets 40% of snaps. That has to change the line.

Not unless Kain is going to play the other 60% of his snaps for Illinois.

spread still 19.5. Colter and Mark are reportedly practicing, but I'm skeptical. Seems the 19.5 points is the easiest free money I've seen in a long time.

This game was more interesting when there was a Sweet Sioux trophy and an Indian Chief involved.

It's amazing how bad Illinois' defense is.

Nice to see that Fitzgerald still insists on being a complete dickhead in an easy win.

Don't get me wrong -- Illinois is pathetically awful. But running up the score on the little children of the poor does not make you a big man.

The Illinois offense scores points for the other team.

Yeah, that's the best they can do.

To be clear, I was upset with NW going for it on 4th and 6 up 41 to 14. Then going for it on 4th down a few more times in the 4th quarter. Yeah, Illinois shouldn't suck so much and stop them. But, I still don't think its appropriate.

So is today Beckman's last game as coach?

They're doing Illinois a favor if it shames them into firing Beckman.

But if they fire him then his wife wont make the team lasagna any more.

How could they do that? Thomas may as well fire himself.

I agree, but have read several comments on twitter today that seem to think he is gone. I don't see how you could do that, but a lot of folks do

How do you fire a guy who hasn't even able to bring in a full recruiting class and instill his vision?

I somewhat agree, but coaching ability should be displayed even on teams with poor talent.

The guy that should be fired is Thomas. He fucked up in hiring the two most important coaches in the athletic department. Getting lucky with Groce may take some heat off him.

If Groce is good, then why is it "lucky"? And Thomas did try to hire about 10 other football coaches, but no one wants to coach at Illinois. Not really his fault in his first year.

You haven't forgotten the process in hiring Groce, have you?
