I just read the ESPN story noted in this thread. Frankly, Fireman Ed seems like a rational person. His reason for "retiring" made perfect sense. I hate the Jets as much as the next guy, but I cannot support a DB nomination for a guy who is quitting for a good reason.

The guy gets a lot of press, and people would assume he quit because the Jets suck. It seems like he wanted to highlight that he still loves the team and will attend games, but that the confrontations with fans are out of control. I just don't have an issue with the way he handled the whole thing.
