i think jewel's been bought out by portlanders. i swear they have some excellent microbrews available now. it's expensive but saving a trip to the liquor store helps...and the prices are probably similar.

I go to the Caputos on Harlem and Grand every once in a while. They got so big that they had to move into a bigger place. And the old place is now a Planet Fitness, which I am a member of. I know you're happy for me.

With apologies to Shark...Caputo's is a local Italian grocery chain known for it's extensive produce and deli sections. They also carry a large selection of pasta and sauces as well as fresh baked goods. As noted previously their meat and seafood is top notch as well. Periodically they advertise whole beef tenderloin for $4-5 per lb. Around Christmas they feature prime rib roasts for similarly low prices. Worth checking out.

On a similar note has anyone ever been to a SuperTony's grocery? One is opening near us and I have heard it's similar to Caputos.

yawn...they are trying to capture the wholefoods/tj's crowd. Had a cake from there and was meh. Caputo's is the place for great deli and imported foods. For general overall value a great place is Woodman's, which also has stuff that is hard to find .

I agree. It seems to definitely have the best quality food of the grocery stores in the Schaumburg area.

Think Kroger north. And with a mass produced food service division.

Kroger and Mariano's aren't even comparable. Kroger's food is Wal-Mart quality. Actually it's probably worse.
